Default 1999 motor upgrade 36 Volt

I am looking at upgrading my motor to make the cart go faster. Besides the motor, 4 GA battery cables and a heavy duty solenoid, is there anything else you thing I may need?

A 1999 36v cart is a resistor coil drive system. Typically the addition of aftermarket motor or bigger tires result in a meltdown of the already marginal drive components.

resistor coil systems were out by 1993 as far as I know. Last ones maybe '92?

'99 would be either DCS or series.

Edit: I see by your other posts your cart is a series. 48v is the way to go.

My cart is a 36 volt series cart, non DCS. Can I upgrade to make it go faster or not? Most posts I have seen say yes. How would I know if it is a resister coli drive? If it is a resister coil drive, then I guess I am stuck.

I have 1998 Series and did AMD 7122 Motor. Went from
About 13-14 to 21 MPH on stock controller. What type of terrain
are you driving on? That will play a factor in your motor choice.

Popular motor options are:

AMD

Plum quick motor can rebuild your stock motor.

Electrical Motor Products

Sounds crazy, I kind of want best of both. I want the speed, but also need to carry 4 people sometimes. My understanding of the AMD 7122 motor is that there is no upgrading of cables and solenoid needed, your cart goes faster and you gain a little more torque than the stock motor. Does that sound correct?

Ooops. I'm guilty of speed reading !?
I read 1999 DS which would have been a Club Car.
Disregard my post

There is always going to be a trade of between torque and speed. The AMD 7122 will give you a boost in speed, but could result in torque loss without a controller upgrade. The motor does not require an upgraded controller and you could be very happy with just a motor. Again it all depends on your terrain? Any hills?

There is no need to upgrade the selonoid if you are not changing the controller.
I would advise to do 4 or 2GA cables with a motor upgrade.

For example in my cart I went to the 7122 Motor, 4GA cables, and left the OEM controller. There was a noticeable reduction in torque, but might cart Is also lifed on 23” tires. The cart ran perfect and had no issues. I follow it up with a controller upgrade to get more low end performance back. Talk to Scotty and
go with an AllTrax.

Other things of keep in mind are the conditions of your batteries. How old are they? What brand?

Thanks for the help! I think I got this. Batteries are Trojan, do not know how old. Just need to check the batteries first before investing in the rest.

Start with the following
1) Upgrade the cables 4 GA
2) New Motor

If I do not like the torque, do the following
1) Upgrade the controller to 500 amp.
2) Upgrade to a heavy duty solenoid.
3) Maybe upgrade the forward/reverse switch to heavy duty.

Yes, that sounds good. Pretty much the road I went down when
I did my cart.

Batteries should have a date code stamped into the terminals.
A full 36V cart will be 38.22V after resting for a number of hours
after the charger turns off.

You can also take readings of the batteries unload and see how many volts
tge pack drops. I do not recall the allowable drop, it’s on a sticky.
