Default Ez Go Radio install issue

I recently hooked up neon lights and a radio in my 36v Ez go. Neon lights are working great but when I connected my Radio it popped and smoked. I run my wires directly off my batteries to a switch but kept my yellow wire connected to a constant Hot. Right off the two batteries I get 12v but now for some reason at my switches I get 24v???

Which 2 batteries did you hook up to? I think you can get any multiple of 6v depending on where in the series you connect.

Get a voltage reducer or a separate 12v battery for your 12v accessories.

You obviously have something wired incorrectly, but you really should get a 36v to 12v reducer or a separate 12v battery to run your accessories. Tapping 2 batteries will degrade the performance of those 2 batteries and eventually the whole pack. Check out some options here: http://www.cartsunlimited.net/12v-reducers.html

Thank you for the response. I have ordered the reducer. Dumb decision not to have already installed one.

Next questions, I would assume if you touched negative on your battery to negative on your negative wire for the radio and lights, you should get .000. Is there a reason I am getting a negative reading - like .24 v??

Where is the best place to get your ground for the radio and lights? Can I use the frame?

No you can't, on an electric cart all grounds need to go back to the batteries. Best solution is to install a fuse block/ground strip to run all accessory wiring to.
