Default Run away cart

Looking at buying a cart that has the following problem...

It is a 1997 TXT series cart.

In forward the cart operates normally. After placing the cart in reverse and touching the foot peddle, the cart runs away in FORWARD and can only be stopped with the key. Taking your foot off the foot peddle does not stop it.

Is the most likely culprit the F&R switch or the controller? Thank you for assisting a rookie.

I had a similar problem on my Cushman. My Run Away Cart was caused by water entry into the controller from a light washing. You can read about it at: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...hrottle-3.html

You might also want to do a search on Run Away Cart or Wide Open Throttle or WOT ... as other BGW members have experienced similar problems.

I think that there is a high probability that the problem is with the Controller. The Fwd/Rev switch only controls the direction ... the Controller controls the speed ... which is in a Run Away situation!

And welcome to the BGW Forum!

I would highly suspect the controller is the culprit. But...that's just a SWAG not knowing anything else or running any test with a multimeter.

Series cart controller doesn't know which direction it is going so something is amiss. Standard FnR switch reverses the leads. Does it have a reversing contactor ?

That I don't know. Plus, I wouldn't know a reversing contractor if I saw one. The cart is a long distance from me.

Is that because the pedal got stuck and it ran away ?
