Default Ready....Set....Whoa.

I am very new here but I am sure glad I found this place. I have had a burning desire to build a hunting cart that can handle pretty steep country. I lucked into a great txt 36 volt lifted cart a few years back that had served me pretty well but it is used in pretty tame terrain in Central Georgia. I need another cart for the much steeper hills of North Georgia and have caught the terrible bug of wanting to build it myself. I have been reading everything possible on the subject and at first I thought I was really getting educated , lol. Then I came upon this forum. Holy smokes! A man could literally spend months researching on here. There are so many sharp people on here. At first I thought I had hit the jack pot of learning but the more I read, the more intimidated I became. I just want to do it right- the first time.

I think I need a mentor to talk me down, lol.

I have options on several cart to start the build. All are pretty much rust free. All are currently running without any problems. All are pretty cheap.
2002 36 volt TXT SERIES -great paint
1997 36 Volt TXT SERIES- Terrible paint
2002 48 Club Car- great paint but I hate the color

They all are solid but I am really drawn to the TXT body style.

I have listened to you guys and know I am going to convert to 48 volts but beyond that I am just overwhelmed at all the options. Super speed is not important but torque is very important.

Again this will be a hunting cart that will never touch pavement. Short of just having someone to personally guide me, where can a guy turn to help in choosing the best base cart and to get answers on motors, lift kits, controllers and EVERYTHING else? I just want to do this right the first time.

Thanks for any guidance that can be provided. If there is anyone in the North Georgia area (Dawsonville) that builds hunting cart, I would like to see how you do it.

I can get you started. The 2002 TXT cart has has different and more modern steering than the '97. Also means more options for the lift I assume you will do. So I would pick that one over the '97. Bodies would be interchangeable if that comes up.
Series carts are a good option for a hunting cart build.

I second Kernal
For hunting, paint is the lowest priority...

The 2002 Txt Series is easily upgraded to 48V, (see Scottyb for the best price and support) Plan on a motor upgrade, and go with torque. not speed.

see my signature for my cart info...plenty of moderately steep but looooonnnnggg grades around here (Central Texas). I did everything (except the paint) myself, and enjoyed every minute !

I couldn't be happier with the results..

When you do get started, start a "build thread" here......
and pictures, WE LOVE PICTURES !!!

Thanks guys. Keep the info coming. I am pretty much set on the 2002 TXT and I have a 7124 beast motor that I can get very cheap. I think that is s great start. Getting excited to get this started.

The RXV offers the best of both worlds. Torque required for climbing hills, and higher RPM limit capabilities to go fast when you want to. Just don't go overboard on tire size. A set of 20" or 20.5" off-road (higher pressure) tires will handle terrain and get you down the trails and roads. No need to choose between a high speed or a high torque motor.
