I recently purchased my first cart. Its a 2007 TXT PDS cart. I've replaced the batteries with new Trojans. The cart will be mainly used offroad for hunting. On our first trip to the ranch it shut off a couple of times while riding slow after a couple miles with two adults in it. It ran fine after it cooled down for another couple miles. It didn't shut off when I drove it faster by myself on a several mile trip. The main positive lead was getting very warm when it shut off. I brought it home and replaced all the cables with #2 gauge that I had already ordered that showed up while I was gone. Wondering if I will have to do the controller upgrade or if I could have just had a bad cable? I don't have a place to drive it for two miles at home to test it and the ranch is a three hour drive. Thanks for any help.

A stock PDS is likes on-road driving better than off-road, but people have transformed PDS carts into hunting carts and similar purposes.

Sounds like the controller went into thermal shutdown and it most likely will do it again with the same load and slow speed.

So what would you recommend I do to keep it from overheating again? I'm not trying to build a hotrod. Most of the time it will be slow travel quietly to deer stands. Thanks again for your help.

Since an electric golf cart is designed to carry two golfers, their golf clubs and other equipment over groomed golf cart trails in 18 increments of about 250 yards with a few minutes rest between increments, modifications are needed to transform it into a hunting cart.

Replace stock controller with an Alltrax XCT48400-PDS (or larger) with the optional fan. (500A XCT comes with fan) The XCT is user programmable.

Replace stock (85A) with one having a 200A rating or more.

Your batteries are fairly new, so add another 6V battery to your battery pack to create a 42V battery pack. The higher voltage reduces the amp flow needed to produce the torque needed to propel cart, which in turn lowers heat generated in controller and motor.

If you decide to get off road tires, avoid tires much taller than stock (18") and avoid low pressure tires (max inflation pressure of 10PSI or less). The tire height is part of the final drive ratio and the taller the tire, the slower the motor turns and the slower the motor turns the more amps it can draw.

I decided to order a XCT400PDS with the 200amp solenoid and optional fan. Hopefully this will be enough to keep me running. Most of the roads are smooth gravel roads. The battery leads quit getting hot after I replaced them with the new 2 gauge. Its nice being able to move around the ranch quietly. You sure see a lot more animals.

Is there a good thread on the site describing adding one more battery to a 36 volt system??

The 200 amp solenoid they sent me is different than all the instructions. I only lack hooking up the small yellow and blue wire to it but am unsure which post to install it on. It's a Sayoo SW180. Not sure how to post a pic on here.

Not sure if the two small wires that hook to the solenoid were put in the correct place but it ran great. Sure would have been nice if they sent instructions for the specific solenoid they sell you.

Anyone bought a 200 solenoid from carts unlimited lately? I sure would like to know if I hooked it up correctly.

Did you follow the directions Scotty sent with your new controller? When I replaced mine I was initially confused because the old one was wired a bit differently than the instructions for the new one outlined. In my case anyway (series cart) it turns out it can be wired a couple of different ways.

If you followed the directions, you should be good, which it sounds like you are since the cart is running.

I’m very far from an expert at this stuff, but from everything I’ve seen there’s not really a difference in how a solenoid itself would be wired. A coil gets activated, which then closes contacts to pass a higher current. Two small posts and two big posts.

Why don’t you post pics of the instructions and your install. The smart guys can then jump in and confirm that you’ve got it right. But, again, it’s running, right? Sounds like you probably did good
