Default Alltrax xct settings

I have an Ezgo txt 36v 2008 with PQ Bandit motor, Alltrax xct48400 controller with 200 HD solenoid, FNKS. 2 gauge cables and Ausco brakes. I measured the actual tire height to 17.5 inches (205/35 r12). I have tested the battery pack with a multimeter and hygrometer, the batteries are good.

I began with Scott’s map then modified. I have not changed the torque curve. After speaking with PQ, I turned off regen braking, turned turbo off and limited rpms to 6k or less (FNKS mode 2)

The cart is my wife’s and since she did not like how the cart took off in any of the three modes i set all three to turf, for now.

In N mode I set the throttle to 35 percent, rpms to 3000, amps to 325.

For Mode 1 I set throttle to 40, amps to 400, rpms to 4500

For mode 2, throttle is 50, amps 400 and rpms 6000.

I realize that the current settings in all modes are fairly close, 35 min to 50 percent throttle. 325 amps to 400 amps. I was simply trying to find a sweet spot.

Here’s the thing. In all three modes, using the iPhone speed box app running the same 1 mile loop I get the same top end speed, 21. There’s a section that’s slightly downhill. By the seat of the pants, I feel the cart takes off ever so slightly in N than mode 2. But the difference is slight. When I used Scotty’s map without modification I reached the same top end sped 21 in N, 1 and 2. Patti did not like Mode 2 so I changed that to turf. I expected to see more of a difference between the 3 modes, using Scotty’s map and when I use my current settings.

So I’m looking for some guidance.

With 17.5" tires, the speed ought to be pretty close to the following:
3000 RPM = 12.6 MPH
4500 RPM = 18.8 MPH
6000 RPM = 25.1 MPH

The XCT starts backing off on its output as the RPM approaches the set point and Regen braking doesn't kick in until set RPM is exceeded, so the actual speed is a bit less than the theoretical speed on level ground and climbs slightly above the theoretical speed going downhill.

You say the cart does 21 MPH with all three RPM settings, so something is amiss. Is the Enable Speed Limit box checked?

With the Turf mode selected, all three users ought to accelerate from a standstill at close to the same rate. However, in Street mode, the throttle rate setting of 35%, 40% and 50% will be pretty rough on the neck muscles. decreasing them will give you a gentler/smoother takeoff. Try them in the Street mode at about half the present percentages and adjust as needed to keep wife happy.

The problems may stem from the PQ bandit if it has no motor speed magnet connection the controller cannot count rpms and rpm monitor should be unchecked. This makes speed limiting impossible.
The PQ motor requires you disable regen and turbo so the motor won't melt down but it can still fly apart if you get going too fast down hill... well that's half of what the Alltrax can do negated.

Put a stock motor back in it and enjoy the Alltrax and FNKS .

Wow! I wasn't aware of the PDS version of the PQ Bandit not having a speed sensor.

That, plus turning off Regen and Turbo negates nearly all the performance improvements that an XCT controller can provide.

With a 36V battery pack a stock PDS motor will spin up to about 5500 PRM, which is about 23 MPH on 17.5" tires, so the cart is likely to be a bit faster with the stock PDS motor reinstalled.

Waiting to hear from the OP if the motor speed sensor is working properly.

There is a speed magnet on this motor. Is it working properly I don’t know. It is an after market speed controller cable. Hmmm hlhow could I tell?

When the Run/Tow switch is in Run, push cart by hand. It should beep rapidly at you.

Also, if you get an RPM reading on the monitor screen, the speed sensor is working.

The speed magnet count should be set to 8 poles for the OEM magnet, which begs the question how many magnet poles does this motor have? If it is a high speed magnet it may be a 4 pole magnet designed to fool the OEM controller.
The Alltrax can be set to either count so you may want to experiment with that too.

FYI, today I hooked up the computer then started the Alltrax app. The RPM’s registered. So then I set the rpm’s to 1000 in N mode. No appreciable difference. Then set the pole to 4. Well that made a difference. It crawled in N as it should. I decided to put the cart in 2 mode, it did 20,
And it was time for a beer.

So it would seem pole 4 is the thing. Since it’s Patti’s cart I’m not over concerned that I only get 20/21 but I would have thought I would do better with a PQ Bandit and Alltrax 4800 controller. What are your thoughts? BTW, I live 10 miles from PQ, maybe I’ll stop by in the next few.
