Default converting an old style dial charger to a smart charger for Marathon

Is there a way to 86 the old style (83 Marathon) dial charger to the smart charger like on my 2000 cart?
I have gone to 42 volts and gotten another charger for my 2000 cart, and have the 36 volt smart charger sitting there.
Can I just change the plug to the 2 prong type (old style) or is there more that needs to be done?

Is it a Total Charge model?

Yes, it is an EZGO Textron Total charge 20L4, and I believe the one I want to convert to is a Powerwise model

Is it an auto dial charger or straight timer charger. They made both. Your title is kinda confusing. insinuate's you want to convert your OLD chargers internal components into a NEW charger....not really a doable thing. If you just want to put the new style plug on the old charger then yes, you can do that. If you want to put the old style plug on the new charger you can do that too.

Ok, I have the dial type charger and I want to put the old style plug on the new charger so that it will only charge the batteries as long as they need to be charged and then shut off. My son would ride the cart for a couple of miles and then put it on an 11 hour charge with the old charger and I think that contributed to the demise of a pack of batteries in 2 years.
