Default Steal or Bum Deal...

So, looking for some things for my EZGO cart on Craigslist, I stumble upon a person selling 6 8-volt Trojan batteries (2014) indicating that they have charged them up 4 days ago and the have 50 volts. No posts are swollen or hot. Of course he wants the old batteries for cores. Cost $250... would this be a red flag?

I do plan on upgrading to 48v just curious if this would be a good deal. I just haven't gotten the other components yet. The person is local so not out my way.

Red flag. They are probably used up batteries with the Epsom salt trick. Will work, won't last. Besides they are already 4 years old. Most people get 5-6 from a set. Not worth the hassle.

As cgtech states, 4 year old batteries are OLD and not worth the bother.

And even a bigger red flag ... 50.0 volts is only an 80% state of charge !!!

If the batteries were in good condition, they should be at least 50.9 volts when fully charged.

See attached State of Charge chart for more information.

I'd run away from this "deal"
