Why aren't "hybrids" very popular?
I'm surprised that I struggle to find info on any hybrid (both electric and gas) carts whether factory or custom. I bought a 2013 Bad Boy Buggies Ambush Hybrid and love it. It was a mess when I got it but through research here I was able to get it working great in both modes.
It has the option of using just electric or just gas or both (4WD). It also has a locking diff. In electric mode I can get it up to 13mph (40 degree weather) and 25mph in gas mode. I'm sure I could go 50 miles, maybe more. Looking forward to tooling around town quietly and switching to gas when I go offroad or when needed. Just wondering why they aren't very popular? Some of you guys could put together some very cool custom rigs. |

No disrespect intended. Really glad you like yours. My beloved father and mother love their hybrid car. I wouldn't own one on a bet. But I like that some people challenge the norms to find new ways of doing things.

Re: Why aren't "hybrids" very popular?
The reason is that it's a nich market. many people use the golf cart for shorter jaunts than 50 miles, so a hybrid doesn't have much call. Yes, it's cool. It is a neat feature to have the option to switch from electric to gas. Just not a feature that is in demand by the masses.
Most carts arent hybrid from the factory and to create one aftermarket can be daunting. The easiest method would be to take an electric cart, put a small honda inverter generator in the bagwell and devise a charging method so you could use electric or hybrid gas-electric. Other methods, like the one you have, are more involved and if someone is going through that much trouble then their time is usually better spent going crazy electric or crazy gas instead of electric/gas. Good to hear you enjoy the cool abilities of your cart. Didn't even know they made such a beast from the factory. |
