Main cable to Starter Solenoid melting. Why?
I was given a EZ-Go Trail Hog that was not running. I cleaned it up and tested the batteries. Found one that was bad, so I replaced it. I put a new cable set on it (4ga between batts, 2ga to Starter Solenoid). It runs like a champ now. I just took it for about a half mile test drive and started smelling burning plastic. I pulled the seat cover off to find starter cable smoking (see attached picture)
What could be the cause of this brand 2ga cable burning up like this. The car runs great and I drove it home after the cable cooled off. Is it possibly the Starter Solenoid? I have attached a picture of the model. |

Probably a bad or loose connection. Redo the connection preferably crimp and solder. Get a torque wrench and torque all battery and solenoid connections to 100 in/lbs. And move that big lug away from the smaller connections.

Thanks. The post on the solenoid wiggles a little. Do think I should replace it too?

You might try putting the old cable back in service first. Looks like a poor connection/crimp and choice of lug.

IN the midst of putting my CCPrecedent cart back together again and also have a "wiggly" solenoid post. I haven't yet tried as I am awaiting my batteries...
I made a post on it here: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...ost-loose.html |

If the solenoid terminal is loose, it's probably the cause, and may need to be replaced, unless you can tighten it.

Thanks. I got a new one on order. Just a side question. When I typed in the model number the search for the part, the same part is made by different brands. Is there a difference in brands or are they pretty much the same? |

Probably all made in China. It's a matter of my Chinese part is better than your Chinese part.
