Curtis Controller for 1992 Marathon
Hi All,
I recently purchased a 1205M-5603 controller for my golf Cart. I bought it on the recommendation from a friend to move to 500A. Can this controller be installed exactly the same way the Curtis 1204-027 came out? I saw this model number on another website as the stock controller for my cart. What else may I need for this upgrade? |

Patience Grasshopper.... (google it if you a young one)
You've asked a not so common model specific question..... those of us that have "viewed" and not responded may not have expertise on the subject.... Also, a lot of folks visit here either with a cup of coffee, or a beer..... lets see what the "next shift" has for you... |

Re: Curtis Controller for 1992 Marathon
Here is some wiring diagrams. These were in the stickys. There is an example of a Marathon controller cart in there. Best you can probably due is compare it to your cart to see if prior owner has messed with the wiring. The controller you bought appears to have the same connections as the original assuming the pictures of them I found on the web are correct. Make sure the throttle signal on the new one matches the cart. Marathons have a pot but I don't remember if it is 0-5k or 5-0k.

Re: Curtis Controller for 1992 Marathon
Thanks. I already stripped down the cart to address some rust and grime. The wiring did match a drawing I did have. Except for a MOV that was between the terminals but I read on another thread it isn't necessary anymore. The new one looks almost identical to the old one with the exception of four square terminals. That I think are for a programmer. The new controller is also 48 v. Aside from new/additional batteries and charger what else do I need.

Re: Curtis Controller for 1992 Marathon
I actually forgot the link to the wiring diagrams but they are in the stickys.
If you are converting to 48v, besides the controller you need appropriate solenoid, at least 4 gage cables, resister and diode for the solenoid, 48v charger and you should probably beef up the F/R reverse switch or use reversing contactors. If original motor it's 26 years old. 48v will perk it up but there isn't much there to begin with and it might protest after a few months. |

Re: Curtis Controller for 1992 Marathon
Hopefully the motor won't give me a problem. I appreciate your help. I'll have to go back and look at the specs to see if it will run on 36v.
