Default Need some info on a cart i just got.

I've got a couple club cars and I've learned quite a bit about them, but I just picked up this ezgo and I was wondering if somebody could give me the rundown on it. I know absolutely nothing about the ezgo carts. It's not running at the moment, I think the po wired the lights into the full 36v and screwed something up. I paid $400 for it, and the charger is brand new.
Did I get a good deal? anything to look out for or tips for working on it?
Thanks!!

I think you got a great deal. Looks like it must be a 98 model. I'm not the EZ-GO guy either but can't be but so much different/difficult.

You have a 1998 TXT cart with a DCS (sepex) drive system.

The charger is worth more than half of the $400 you paid, so you got a heck of a deal.

The previous owner probably trashed the controller, but that is no big loss. The DCS controller was EZGO's first attempt at a sepex drive system and there were some fatal flaws, such as no low voltage cutoff.

Replace it with an Alltrax XCT-DCS with an appropriate solenoid (stock is only 85A) and you'll have a nice cart that'll do 20 MPH or better with stock motor and tire height.

Here is a service manual for it

Also looks like the battery terminal is snapped off, and that one looks hard to repair. Those batteries look low rate and scuzzy anyway.

The Duracell's aren't among the "better" batteries out there, but might get you by for a while if they'll take a charge. They do look a bit scuzzy, which doesn't bode well for their overall care. That terminal looks like they drilled through the top post terminal sideways and put a bolt through it. Seems like that's about the least contact area you could hope for. Probably would have been better off to use a automotive top post "repair" end.
Still a great deal for the cart & charger even if it does need a little love to make it run.

Finally got some time to mess with this cart last night. The "lights" that the PO wired in were grounded out and I'm assuming they caused the batteries to discharge to the point the charger wouldn't kick on. I was only getting 3.7V across the entire pack.
I used a 12v charger to charge two batteries at a time for about 20 min each. Plugged the charger in and it started charging. Hopped in it this morning and took off!
Cart runs great! I'll have to see how well the batteries hold a charge but hopefully they will get me by for awhile!
