Price is very dependent on location. Call a lot of places, as it may be worth an hour's drive if you can save real $$$.

If you use a decent BMS, it can be wired to switch the charger on and off, so the charger type is not as critical. The BMS will stop the charge when it reaches the setting. As for electronics, yes, for the most part. It helps to reprogram a Curtis RXV controller to work with your lithium pack voltages, both the high end and the low end. The RXV Curtis controller has a programmable nominal voltage range of 24 volts to 96 volts.

The BMS can operate a relay to interlock your keyswitch or solenoid signal, to shut down operation to prevent overdischarge of your pack. You can rig a bypass switch to go a bit further if need be, at your own risk.

expect to pay 110-140 each for 8v battery of good quality
for a 12V 140-170 each

recently, members have been reporting multi year service from Costco...
just me, but I avoid Sams/Wally World products, but that is just me !

Batteries are like bar b que, that is you like what you like, and you don't like
the rest.....
