medalist series upgrade
I recently purchased a stock 1995 36V medalist with a series controller. It takes of quick but the top speed is less than optimum (10-12 MPH). I would like to put a back seat on it and lift with bigger tires but I am afraid the performance will be significantly impacted. We have this at the campground where it is mostly flat with a few small hills. Any suggestions on where to start with performance upgrades?

Re: medalist series upgrade
12MPH is the published top speed for a 1995 series drive Medalist.
To get it to go faster, you have to either increase the battery pack voltage, install taller tires, install a high speed motor or install high speed gears in the differential. Or some combination thereof. Changing the tire height or gear ratio in differential (both effect final drive ratio) will increase speed, but reduce torque while installing a rear seat will require more torque. Upping the battery pack voltage to 48V will increase both speed and torque by about 33%. Choosing a motor is a bit tricky and shouldn't be done until the pack voltage and final drive ratio has been established. What top speed on level ground are you looking for? In a nutshell, speed costs money, so how fast your cart goes depends on how much you spend. |

Re: medalist series upgrade
I started off with a 94 Medalist, 36v for my first rebuild.
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...r-project.html Advice from everyone on here to upgrade to 48v, is golden. I kept the stock motor and tires then went with 2ga. cables. I also installed the Alltrax SR48400 controller w/ heavy duty solenoid and the SW180 reversing contactors. I use my cart mainly for golfing, top speed with 2 riders and 2 sets of clubs is 15-16mph and still have plenty of torque to climb. Good luck and keep us posted. |

Re: medalist series upgrade
Read my Medalist Journal - just sold the cart but it was a beast, also mainly for golf but had too speed of 29 mph.
They’re great carts man, don’t see many and the fact that today’s txt parts still fit is awesome. Good luck with it!! |
