Default Electric to gas questions

To clarify, the cart was electric, I'm converting it to gas. That's why I put this post in the electric section. If you think I need to move it to the gas section I will.

Hi everyone. I have an 02 EzGo TXT that I'm putting a gas engine in. Engine is a Lifan Honda clone with electric start and I was planning on using it to drive the stock transmission and differential. I have installed a sprocket on the transmission input shaft but my problem is with mounting the engine due to the location of the transmission. If I want to keep the engine under the seat it is going to be way too far to the passenger side in order to make the input sprocket line up with the torque converter sprocket. I sold the electric parts so I cannot press the shaft out of the motor to extend the input shaft over towards the driver side. I would have to remove the recoil completely and cut down the piece that the recoil connects to just to get the engine to line up. I would much rather have the engine centered, as well as keep the recoil in case the electric starter fails.

2 questions:

1 - How are the guys that are mounting Predator or other clone motors getting this to line up?

2 - If I rotate the axle 180 deg I would have a better angle, but the gears in the diff would be in reverse the whole time. Does anybody think that will matter long term?

If I cannot get this figured out I'm going to have to pull the axle and fab up a live axle like go-carts have. At least then I could have disk brakes, but that puts this cart over budget. If anybody has a junk motor or the splined input shaft you want to get rid of that may help.

Thanks in advance guys, you are the most knowledgeable bunch I have seen on these things.
