New batteries today and still the same problem!

Hi guys new to the forem and this is actually the first forum I've ever been on but I have no other choice. I'm super frustrated with this cart it's a 2002 ezgo freedom 36 volt that was running and doing fine until last week when it only lasted about 10 min then wouldn't make it up my driveway? (Steep driveway but not that steep or long) so I was reading online that it sounded like my batteries where dying. I purchased six new batteries today and again after 10 min it won't make it up the driveway??? Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

Also it's a precision drive if that helps any. This is my first cart so not sure what other info is needed

I am assuming that this is an ezgo PDS cart. The problem you describe is likely due to a thermal issue. PDS controllers, it seems, are extraordinarily sensitive to overheating. This is particularly true of carts that are lifted or carrying heavy loads. Are there any cables attached to your controller that are getting very hot? Sometimes you may even notice places on the plastic controller cover where cables touching it have gotten so hot that they melt indentations into the cover. Another possibility is that the controller baseplate has become corroded to such an extent that the efficiency of heat transfer from the controller to its mounting surface has become severely compromised.

1. Replace any cables that getting unusually hot

2. Verify that the controller baseplate is clean and securely attached with all three bolts
to the mounting surface.

Did you completly charge the "new" batteries BEFORE using them?

Yes this is a pds and I did notice one of the cables going to the first battery got really hot so I cleaned the terminals and tightened up all the cables it was much better but still slowed down after about ten minutes especially going uphill.

I'm not sure what the controller baseplate is but I will look it up and go through everything you suggested on this Sunday and let you know of my findings.

Yes they where completely charged.

Have you removed the plastic bubble with the Tow/Run switch so that you can access the solenoid and controller? You need to check the cables that attach directly to the controller blades for overheating. The short cable between the solenoid and the controller B+ blade is often found to overheat. The controller baseplate is the aluminum plate at the bottom of the controller that has the mounting holes used to attach the controller to a large aluminum heat sink. Sometimes water intrusion causes a thick white crust of aluminum oxide to develop between the controller baseplate and the surface it is attached to. The crust impedes heat transfer from the controller to the heat sink causing the controller to overheat.

Ok checked all that and everything appears to be in place. Nothing loose and no corrosion??
