Default new XCT400PDS control and solenoid install but still no life

Recently purchased a new alltrax sepex control/solenoid combo thinking I fried my original control (Curtis pmc) in my 2003 EZGO 36v pds. The reason I thought I may have fried it was because I had a pretty bad arc on the positive terminal of my battery when installing a light bar (I did not have the negative terminal disconnected). After I arced in my face, I gave myself some time to cool down and I reconnected everything as it was prior to the light bar and my cart had zero life. I would turn the key and cart would not run F or R, no reverse buzzer, no solenoid click, and no light on my indash battery indicator.

I purchased the Alltrax XCT400PDS controller and 200am solenoid combo. Installed and my cart still has no life other than my battery indicator does come on now when I turn the keyswitch. Battery water levels good, batteries fully charged.

This purchase came with a 3a diode, a 6a regen diode, and a resistor. I have the small diode on the small terminals of the solenoid and the regen diode on the large terminals (this is how I perceived the instructions). Could my issue be not having the resistor on the large terminals of the solenoid? And if that is true, is it possible that I have already fried my brand new controller?

The controller itself is getting power and it is getting back to the motor. Another thing that is confusing me is that my error code light on the controller is not lighting up at all.

any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Did you buy them from ScottyB? He has specific instructions as to the date of manufacture of the alltrax and which diodes to use. I’m no alltrax expert so I don’t want to give you wrong advise. I believe no light means the controller is protecting itself.

I did purchase through him. I followed the instructions as I perceived them. I am by no means an expert. I did not see in the instructions regarding the installation of the resistor, and that was the only part or connection I did not put on.

Good to hear "the controller is protecting itself". I hope that is the case.

On mine that’s is the newest model you use nothing on the small terminals as it’s now built in. There’s the alltrax printed instructions and also Scotty’s, reread his words versus all the diagrams. It’s says “note diode and resistor are not used with the new xtc controllers after 1-1-17. I used the big one for the big terminals but made sure I had the strip in the right position.

I would take the one off the small terminals and see if the light comes it takes a few seconds, but don’t use the throttle unless it does. Remember I’m no expert so take thi with a grain of salt.

Yesterday I noticed I had the larger diode installed on the larger posts with the white strip towards the neg. I did swap it around to the correct way. could I have damaged the diode since I had it installed incorrectly the first time?

I will try unhooking the smaller diode from the small terminals when I get home today.

I saw the instructions stating not to use the resistor, however I am confused as to why they would send it if it wasn't needed.

Remove them both and see if the light comes on. There is a thread somewhere here where Scotty says both are not needed now. I tried searching but can’t find it. I installed mine on the large terminals just to be redundant. Here’s a pic of my install. Notice the small terminal with one blue wire how it’s pointing forward’ish, if you tighten the nut and it moves it rearward where the orange meets silver between the large and small terminals your cart won’t run if it touches silver at all.

If your cart runs with both diodes off make sure you don’t move the cart(regen) with the key off until Scotty or another expert chimes in.

oh you have the 400a solenoid, mine is the 200. I will disconnect the diodes here in the next couple hours when I get home and see what happens. I have been messing with this cart nonstop since Thursday evening and I have just about had enough of it

The LED not lighting means the XCT is not powering up, so the solenoid will not click and the beeper will not beep, nor will motor run in either direction.

To get the XCT to power up, disconnect charger from cart, Run/Tow in Run, F/R in either F or R and Keyswitch ON.

If the LED doesn't illuminate, connect your handheld DVM's negative test lead to the XCT's B- terminal and probe the backside of the following with the positive test lead.

All of these test points ought to have full battery pack voltage, 38.2V for a fully charged 36V battery pack.
J1 Pin-4
J1 Pin-5
J1 Pin-1
J1 Pin-2 if in R or J1 Pin-3 if in F
J1 Pin-9
J1 Pin-8
J3 Pin-1
J3 Pin-2
J3 Pin-3
J3 Pin-4

If any of the pins listed above does not have FULL battery pack voltage, find out why not and fix it.

------------
After the XCT is powering up, the we can look at other things, if need be.

Thank you for the instructions. I will get on that as soon as I get back home and update with my findings

J1-#4 no power
J3-#3 and 4 no power (this should be the run/tow correct?)

The think with j1-#4 is the it is connected to my negative battery and runs through a 15amp fuse and goes to the port. It was like this when I bought the cart and never had an issue. Just seems funny to me
