Default Has ANYONE taking apart the speed controller and repaired it?? Im in the process.

I cannot find anyone that has done this yet. So here's what happened. I know mine was broken, so I took it apart. I found a transistor and resistor burned up. I have attached a pic. Has anyone repaired these before? I am going to replace these 2 components and see what happens. This cart had been sitting for 4 plus years, and the motor was locked up. I have rebuilt the motor, now trying my luck with this. I will report back but if anyone has repaired these please chime in. Thanks! My cart is a 2001 txt 36v and was apparently bobby Bowdens golf cart for FSU years ago.

Yes, I've repaired controllers once in a while. I do more programming than electronic repair these days. Modern controllers use mostly SMD (Surface Mount Device) components. It just depends upon the amount of damage and the cause of the damage as to whether it is cost effective to repair. Unless it is a minor repair, or a software glitch that can be solved with a reflash or reprogramming, I recommend a new controller. Older controllers that suffer component failure from age or abuse (repeated overload/overheat) are time bombs just waiting to fail again. Some controllers were of such a poor design, such as the Curtis PMC, that they are not worth the cost of a repair, due to design flaws. Much better controllers are available that do not have those design flaws.

Can you give an example of an upgraded controller thats plug and play for my 2001 TXT 36V?

I actually messaged the guy on Ebay that repairs these for $115, and he says just replacing the resistor and transistor will not fix it. he says there is damage to the logic board most definitely. I think that is above my knowledege so I was going to send it to him.

He can also upgrade to handle higher loads. I wont be doing anything crazy with the cart though. https://www.ebay.com/itm/EzGo-PDS-12...E/323306799127

This thing is a joke. Those controllers already have heat problems, adding more/bigger heat-generating mosfets is going to make heat problems worse. That would be a waste of money.

I had fsip go through mine and upgrade it from 225amp to 400amp, works fine and I haven't had any issues with it, that's been probably 8 or 9 months ago.

I don't use the cart for anything other than back and forth on the trails on my hunting lease. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on it either. I might not trust an individual to fix one, but I don't see a problem with fsip rebuilding/upgrading one ?

FSIP is a fairly reputable company. They have made mistakes though. There was one instance where they claimed to have repaired an RXV controller for one of our forum members, and returned it unrepaired. It had a problem with the onboard 5 VDC logic power supply, and they had tested it on their test bench which supplied the 5 VDC logic power, so the onboard 5 VDC power supply was never tested or repaired. He returned it and they repaired it right that time.
