Motor confusion
Ok so I have a motor that I pulled out of a PDS cart not too long ago and the armature was too rough to just polish out. So I used another motor that I had in stock to get the customer going.
Now I have the armature back from the motor shop that was turned. I went to put it all back together and the motor case has the small wire windings like a sepex motor. Both carts are true PDS carts from the dash switch to the controller. Apparently either will work in a PDS cart.....Is one better than the other speed or torque? |

Re: Motor confusion
In theory both shunt and series will 'work' however trying to run a series motor on a shunt control will eventually lead to a catastrophic failure of the field driver circuitry. Its only intended to drive around 20~30A with a field impedance of around 0.8~1.2 ohms. Series motors are more comparable to the armature as far as resistance so more potential current draw, and much better chance of it exceeding the ratings of the components.
The 1206MX and HB only have 4 FETs for the field and the method at which it drives it only 2 are really utilized at any one time, and are only rated for a bit more than the controller field limit. |
