Hi NC,

Assuming the cart is stock? And "real warm" like 15 degrees warmer, 50 degrees warmer or can't hold onto it warmer?

If you look at that wire it has what appears to be a fair amount of corrosion where the wire terminates. You might need new wires. The acid fumes from the batteries will eventually kill the wires and replacing them at some point is normal. Any point of resistance (like a bad connection or corrosion) will generate heat. Heat = inefficiency and reduced speed and/or range.

Also, in the one pic it appears you did it correctly, but just to verify. The power cable (the fat one) is on the bottom and the others are stacked on top, right? That way the fat cable gets the best electrical connection.

You can get a full cable set (including the wires to the motor) quite reasonably from the sponsors on this site. Or you can build your own with welding cable, if you build your own make sure you get the wires to the motor too and take pictures of your current wiring before you remove them all...

Bronsonj is correct about corrosion issues.
You also need to check each battery with a digital volt meter then verify entire pack is completely charged as well. (I have attached JohnnieB's state of charge chart)
What charger do you have? Verify (by calling Duracell or charger manufacturer) that the charger is correct (or set correctly) for those batteries.
Lots of great help and sponsors on this site so don't be afraid to ask questions.
Keep us posted

Hey bowhunter... I'm fairly new to this, but in the short time I've been messing with golf carts I've probably done more reading than most people would have. I've got kind of an addictive personality! As for your questions, I think you're right about the year of your cart and I also think that cleaning/changing every connection (including the motor connections) would be a good idea. Like someone else mentioned, any corroded/bad connection or wire is pretty much a single point failure on a golf cart. Just about everything flows in a series. However, I have also read/heard of many people reporting that their stock carts on go a little faster that a walk on hills, especially if the tires are larger than stock. There are plenty of way more experienced people in this forum that may can give more insight on this than me, but AFTER you make sure all of your connections/wires are good, you may find that what you're wanting in an upgraded controller to give you some more torque on the hills. There are plenty of options, I went with an Alltrax from ScottyB (cartsunlimited) and couldn't be happier with the product or the service I got from Scotty. Hope this helps

thanks guys ...
it is stock from what i can see...an old single woman used it around her house...
i cleaned all wires last night and used them just so i can see if it made a difference..i will be changing all wires soon cause of some still corroded and different sizes....

the black wire that i said got real warm wasnt bad today...slight warm not untouchable...
im thinking new cables will help that...

it goes about 8mph on somewhat flat strip , my neighborhood is not flat but my son tested it on our driveway ..lol.... next step after wires will probably be controller...

thanks again and i'll keep ya posted....

Not the one you are quoting, but it depends on what controller you’re going to get. If you plan on going with a 500a controller and will be using it off-road or on hilly terrain, I think they recommend 2 gauge. 4 Gaige for standard use 500a controller, but you can verify on cartunlimited. They have recommendations.

i do plan on upgrading the controller.... i dont know what to upgrade to..i will be using it mostly in woods for hunting and some light yard work....our neighborhood is slightly hilly....and our new property has lots of mixed terrain ...lol...

plus i noticed the wiring is so mixed matched right now...she had some 2 g , 1 g and 4 g wires...crazy as hell....lol

I wouldn’t go any smaller than 2awg if I were you. It seems to me that 2awg will do just fine on everything except the most extreme situations. I would ask that someone with more experience please correct me if I’m wrong! I have a 500a controller with 2 awg wires ans a stock motor. I’m very pleased. It does slow down a little on hills, but I can still get about 12-14mph uphill and max out at about 24-25mph downhill. Mine is really a little too fast around the yard and in the woods. Think I’m going to get a switch to drop the speed and increase torque while off-road. Again brother, I’m fairly new to this, but I’m just sharing what I’ve found in MY experience.
