Default Safety precautions when working on an RXV?

I've read numerous comments that you want to be very careful will messing with the electrical on an RXV, but I haven't found details on what precautions to take? I'm trying to help a friend replace his motor brake and solenoid on his 2008 RXV.

It completely locked up the first time he got to use it. We unbolted the brake and were able to push it back onto the trailer.

Anyway, is it as simple as my TXT, remove a battery cable in the series? He has a Danaher controller if that means anything. Thanks for any tips or advice.

He just ordered a replacement OEM brake and trombetta 36v solenoid.

36v solenoid? It should be 48v.

It currently has a 36v solenoid and everything I've read says it should be 36v as odd as that sounds. Yes, it is a 48v cart.

I could be wrong.

Here is how you do the brake.

Remove the two T27 torx screws on the rear cover
Choke the wheels
Disconnect the negative cable on the battery pack
Turn the ignition key to reverse, wait till the reverse indicator becomes silent then turn key off
Disconnect wire harness from motor brake
Remove the three 10mm hex screws and lock washers from brake
If bolts are rusty replace them
Remove brake if there is residue on motor be sure to clean it use a wire brush
Position the brake with the connector at the top, install the three hex screws loosely.
Connect wire harness to the motor brake, re-connect battery negative cable
Turn ignition to neutral, turn Run/Tow switch to Tow position, this provides power to the brake to align the disc material
Set torque wrench between 53 to 65 in. lbs (6-8 Nm) and tighten screws be sure not to over tighten
Turn key back to the off position
Move Run/Tow switch back to Run position
Put rear back cover on

Put the 36v solenoid on it that you have ordered.

Thanks for the R&R steps and confirmation!! My buddy and I are new to owning carts. I've played golf since I was 5, but driving and owning a cart is a whole different world. It doesn't help that his is an RXV and mine is a TXT. Two totally different systems. Thanks again!!

Another super wrong answer. The RXV has used a 36v solenoid until recently, while being a 48v system. They had the controller "pwm" the power down to 36v for the solenoid for the most of the rxv's existence. Recently they did change it to a 48v solenoid. This is what makes the rxv so foreign to most cart fixers, it's totally different. Same thing for why the 5v throttle sensor seems like a alien technology.

Jack up both rear tires so you can spin the motor when you install the brake. That will let you get the brake on with the connector pointed up. The first two bolts usually go in easy but the third one never seems to line up enough to get the threads started. I always plug in the brake after the first two are started and put it in tow to get the third one started. Make sure you are in tow when you tighten the bolts.

36V solenoid is correct, until the newer model Curtis controllers 1206AC-5211 (Fleet), 1206AC-5213 (Freedom), and the 1206AC-5360 (350 Amp Upgrade).

Before working on any electrical in an RXV, switch the key to off, and move the run/tow switch to tow.

Thanks for correcting me. I would’ve done it wrong.
