Re: Full pack with bad battery?
Yes... Depending on how a battery goes bad some can still show full or better voltage. I had a garden tractor battery do this a couple years ago...

Re: Full pack with bad battery?
so what's the best way to pinpoint if that is the case...unhook all the batteries and voltage test each one individually?

Re: Full pack with bad battery?
One way is to check voltage on each one while under load and see which one is dropping voltage. If you have an incline or small hill that helps...

You can also check the Specific Gravity of each cell after charging. It should be at 1.3

Just connect the DVM's test leads to the two terminals on the same battery and repeat for individual next battery. Load testing is fairly easy if you have a DVM the has a Min/Max hold feature. If not, take someone with you to get the lowest voltage the battery drops to. |

Re: Full pack with bad battery?
It's fairly common for a failing battery to show good voltage when at rest. Test as described above.

Re: Full pack with bad battery?
SG won't show if you have a mechanical problem, such as connecting metal parts that tie the cells to the next in series, within the battery.
