Default DPI Charger

I know most people on the board recommend DPI chargers. Personally I’m not impressed. I bought a DPI after my 48 volt Lester charger died. The DPI lasted 2 months and it died. I called DPI and sent it back to them at MY cost. I’ve been waiting 3 weeks for my Charger and I’m still waiting. It should have been as simple as sending me a new charger. Not impressed with there customer service either. I call to check on my charger. I stay on hold for 40 minutes and then it sends my call to voice mail. I leave a message and no one returns my call. If I could give them less than one star I would. Very disappointed in DPI.

sorry for your trouble.....I had one go out after/during a power spike.....it was a few years old. I bought it from one of our site sponsors....I called DPI, told them this....they sent me a new one that day and all I had to do was to put my old one in the box that the new one came in and put the return label on it......easy peasy.

I bought one of their 42 volt chargers about 18 months ago and it didn't work right from the start and failed completely after a couple of weeks. I called and they sent a new one out that day. Then the replacement started failing and failed completely after about 2 months. Once again I called and they shipped a new one out the next day. I've posted about charger #3 here before; it has shown signs of the same issue. At times when I hook it up, it fails to start the charge and displays all red lights. I can unplug everything and so far it has always worked on the second or third try. I've noticed that it doesn't seem to fail if I first plug it into the wall and then the cart; the failures seem to occur when I plug it into the cart first.

I've thought that they must have gotten a batch of bad components of some sort when they made these 3 chargers. I've contacted the company but they didn't seem to be interested in talking about it with me. I think it likely that this one will eventually fail completely the same way the first two did. I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with customer service. That was the one thing I thought was great about them. Mine has a 3 year warranty; I'm assuming yours does too? Please let me know how you come out with them.

I would have been happy had they just sent me a new charger and a return shipping label for the defective one. Sometimes you just get a bad one. But no they said I had to send it in and they would determine weather to repair or replace the charger. That was 3 weeks ago. Bad thing is I only live 4 or 5 hours away from them. What really made me mad was when I called them I was put on hold for 40 minutes and then my call was sent to voicemail.

Just asking: Why would you plug in the cart first? Every charger I've ever worked with I understood was intended to plug into the house hold (A/C) current first, then into the cart (D/C) socket. It seems to me plugging into the D/C first means the relay has already been energized - so you would kind of power spike the system as the A/C gets plugged in.

So is there some reason to plug the D/C in first?

Is this a gen 3 or 4? Gen 4 use the connections at the front of the charger and I think it is a way they can make one charger for all and just change cords. Mine just failed because of the connection on the front of the charger. If I twist the connection it works fine. Pull it apart and you can see the bad connection. Going to call them tomorrow and see what happens.

Snuffy,
Does your tracking number show who and when it was signed for at DPI?
Keep calling back until you get an answer.

I've had my Gen IV DPI since February and use it everyday without any issues.

I'm not sure which generation it is. I made the original purchase in February of 2017. I got the first replacement in April, and I think it was June when that one completely failed and they sent me the one I have now. Is that time period 3 or 4?

Meimk - I tried both ways when it started failing on me. I posted about it on here and someone followed up by posting an email from DPI where their guy said it didn't make any difference which you plug in first. The first 2 got to where they wouldn't work either way. I suspect it's something simple. If they ever started charging they would work fine.

I have a DPI and it works great. Sux that they keep passing you off to voicemail. Plead your case via Facebook - that usually gets someone's attention.
