More info needed on my cart - please help identify
Hello everybody! It looks like there is a ton of good info and knowledgeable individuals on the site so I decided to join. I just got my first cart and I’ll say it’s a project for sure, I’m trying to identify it better so I can find some more cart specific schematics for my rig. Serial number on it is 81F2 230429
The main issue I seem to be having is when FR switch is put into either direction, the cart starts to roll in that direction. It’s a bit of a safety thing if someone else drives it. I can also add the two micro switches on the pedal throttle assembly are not connected as well as the micro switch on the FR switch is not connected. I’m assuming this is the reason. The accelerator still does make the cart go faster as well. A little bit of direction would be appreciated! Thank you |

Hello Brea. to BGW.
I'm pretty sure you have a stuck solenoid, but I can't explain why it is still running with the micro switch issues. One of the EZ-GO guys will have to help with that. |

Do u think if I give the solenoid a couple of love taps w a hammer it will “unstuck”?

If it "unstucks", it will likely never work again. It is a safety hazard, they cost like $30.

Re: More info needed on my cart - please help identify
I don’t mind spending 30$ but I assume someone rigged the cart to work with it stuck. I want to be able to make sure if/when I put a new one in, I can wire everything to work as it should. I’m assuming all 3 microswitchs not connected will have to be connected and functioning properly if the solenoid is replaced. I don’t know how everything is supposed to connect. I appreciate the insight! 😁

Two of those microswitches (on the F/R board) are not necessary IMO. they just prevent the solenoid activation from working in neutral, the other just runs a backup buzzer (think scary seatbelt buzzer on an old Ford truck).
The one you need to be concerned about is the pedal microswitch, depending on the car, could be bolted up to a contact board itself (70s to early 80s Marathon), above a POT box (later Marathons with speed controller), or under the floor mat inside a plastic box (later model TXT). Given your serial number it appears to be a 1981, probably EZGO Marathon with resistor speed control. Pedal microswitch is a large switch with a long metal tab mounted to the contact board, should have two wires going to it, one going from one of the small solenoid terminals, the other to one of the four bolts of the F/R board, or sometimes it is relocated to battery + or the key switch. |

Ok, thank you Nick! I wont fuss with microswitch on the forward/reverse in that case. The two microswitches on the pedal throttle assembly, neither are hooked up to the solenoid. they are both just dangling wires. Also, you can forget about the whole "key thing" on this cart.
It looks like the microswitches on the pedal assembly operate #1 when the pedal has not been pressed at all, then the second one looks like it is operated when the pedal is all the way pushed to the floor. |

I mostly agree about FNR MSs, however, the backup beeper MS also gives you 1/2 speed reverse. If you don't need that, no problem.

Re: More info needed on my cart - please help identify
I doubt half speed reverse is possible on resistor cars unless it is tapping into 18Vs like old 36V Club Cars once did.
If this is an EZGO there should only be one micro switch. A second can sometimes be found connected to a vacuum tube (used as a time delay) on Harley Davidson electric cars for the final (fastest) speed. flooring one of those uses speed 3 until vacuum tube heats up and closes for speed 4, a primitive means of allowing car to speed up prior to using the fastest speed. |

Oops. I thought he had a series. I'm probably think about pot box throttle.
EDIT: Controller series. He did mention 3 MSs. |
