Flood Damaged EZGO IKE
I also have an Ike flooded '99 EZ GO. I just got it free from a neighbor that wanted it gone. Unfortunately, it was 6 ft underwater. Aesthetically, it looks pretty good. Though, i'm sure everything needs to be replaced. I"m hoping the diff, charger, and misc. other parts will be ok... but i'm sure i need new batteries, motor, controller, etc...
When i re-do the cart, is it recommended to go to 48V? does this increase the cost of all the things I will have to replace anyway? I'm thinking about $600 for the batteries, $350 for the motor, what other BIG costs will i have to look forward to? |

Re: Flood Damaged EZGO IKE
I would go 48 volt if I where you. You will need a new charger, batteries, all new wiring and switches throughout cart, solenoid, I would look into having motor rewound from someone like EMP or Plumquick. The cost should be the same relatively the same either way you go unless you charger is in fact still good but if it is you can still sale it and recoup some of your money.

Re: Flood Damaged EZGO IKE
i figure i need to strip it down to the frame and try to rid the steel tubing frame of all rust (as recommended by someone on this list). I"ll then prime and paint with some Alkyd industrial enamel. I figure i can do the wiring myself. seems like 4 gauge is the way to go in case i upgrade to 48 now OR later. Where do i buy wire like that? anything special to mount to the batteries besides soldering? How much for a new controller? Solenoid? re-wind motor vs. new motor? if I go 48v, i can use the old motor once rewound? Just need x6 8v batteries instead of x6 6v? are they about the same price? how much is a 48v charger? R/F switch? any other misc. switches? and how much roughly? Should the diff be ok one i drain and re-seal it and fill with oil?
sorry for all the questions, i'm just trying to get a handle on all of this stuff. I want to eventually add other 12v accessories like CD player, and lights. Also rear seat. |

Thanks! It looks like i'll be logging in a lot of hours on this forum. I thought a "Free" golf cart (Ike victim), would be a good thing.

Re: Flood Damaged EZGO IKE
Cable you can get from a welding supply store, rewound will be cheaper than new but it all depends on what you want the cart to do you had part price close on motor rewound or something other than factory will be your best option but a used factory motor is another option too. A charger will be about $350 and a controller you will want aftermarket also so you can go to 48 volt if you want and they are higher amp too.

Re: Flood Damaged EZGO IKE
I'm going to start stripping this thing down to the frame in the next couple of days, and just start from there. It seems like a huge undertaking when i step back and look at everything at once. Maybe i should sell this thing (looks really good actually) for parts, or to one of the 4-5 local golf cart repair/sales shops, and just go out and buy a used working cart for $1,500, and expect to just replace batteries in a year. I bet that would be a lot cheaper!!! Wouldn't be as rewarding, but i'll have to spend so much time educating myself on all this, it might take the fun out of it!

Re: Flood Damaged EZGO IKE
Taking a cart all the way down to the frame and rebuilding it is a major undertaking, but you could end up with a very nice cart. I did it, and am very happy with the results, but mine wasn't involved in a hurricane. We all started this hobby with a POS cart and went forward from there. If you're doing this to sell the cart, don't waste your time.
