Default 47 volt pack voltage

I just got done putting brand new batteries in my 2014 ezgo and the pack voltage is showing 47.8 volts. Each battery reads 11.93 volts. These were purchased an hour ago. Do they need to be charged or should they have came charged?

Update I called the place I bought them from was told theres nooooooo way those batteries came in 2 weeks ago. I told him what I was getting 11.93 per battery he put me on hold for a fee minutes came back and apologized and said every battery on the pallet was reading 11.93. He said charge em and run em all weekend if they act like they dont wanna charge and act right bring em back for a full refund or a swap whichever I prefer. I paid 575.00 out the door for these their us battery brand in a red case. My old ones were us battery in a blue case they seem to hold up well for the abuse I put them through.

ALWAYS charge new batteries before use. Don't drive it until the charger cuts off. Read up on battery break-in procedures, and care and maintenance.

The batteries are at 11.9v or 40% charged. We don't know how long they have been at this voltage but I would bet it has been months since they were originally charged to 100%.
Here's why I'm uncomfortable with this. Lead acid batteries begin to sulfate when left to sit at as little as 10% discharged or 90% charged. Lets say they are healthy and in a protected environment and they are self discharging at 0.05 % per day. They would be 12.69 after 1 month and 12.65 after 2 months so they have either never been fully charged or they have sat for a very long time

I'm trailering my cart to my farm now. I'll definitely read up on the care and maintenance. Only charger I have is a quiq charger that came with the cart I'd like to have one that cuts on and off with voltage drop. Sometimes I leave this cart up to a month at the farm with no use.

all new batteries need a good Equalization charge which you have not done yet. Set charger to 64 volts and let it go 24 hours.

ScottyB brings up an excellent point. Mine were special order. I never checked voltage on mine, but quickly rigged up interconnecting cables and charger port, and charged them up right away. It would be a while before I had my cart ready enough to install them, so I topped them off weekly.

I was told - dunno if it's true - that batteries are shipped empty, and filled up at the battery shop. Anyone know if that's true?

ScottyB, should he consider returning them?

MUDSLINGER, what is the month stamp on the batteries?

sunking you come up with some messed up post. Can you explain how you are supposed to be able to do this. I have been working on carts for a long time and have never heard of any thing like this

How do you set your charger to charge to 64 volts ??. And how do you get the charger to run for 24 hours??
