2000 EZGO TXT PDS with US2200 6 volt batteries charging question

First off, this is the first cart I've owned.I just put 6 new 6 volt US2200 batteries in yesterday. I then plugged in my Powerwise industrial charger. It's the big black and silver one. It started charging at 19 or 20 amps and I left it after going into the house for the night thinking it would be off in the morning. That was at 7:30 in the evening. Well, at 7:30 this morning, it was still on. The amp meter showed about 3 or 4 amps. I checked the pack voltage and it was 45.2. I then decided I better unplug it. I know the relay in the charger works cause when you plug and unplug the charger cord from the cart the charger transformer turns on and off. Shouldn't this charger shut off when the pack is around 45.2 volts? I hope it didn't cause any damage to my batteries. Thinking not since the amperage was so low at the end. I road it for about 15 minutes and put it back on the charger to top it off, and it went back to 45.2 volts and didn't shut off. Was pushing about 3 amps again. Started at 19 or so. I'm scared to leave it on too long for fear of damaging my batteries. Paid $750 for them. What could cause this? I hate to have manually shut it off everytime I charge it. Wonder if the circuit board is bad in the charger and is causing this?

I think your next move is to try letting it do it's job, give it time to shut down on it's own. 45.x volts is nothing to be alarmed about while charging.

I agree. If I remember correctly the US batteries have a higher cutoff than Trojan so it might take a little longer.

If I'm not mistaken the power-wise charger will run for a maximum of 16 hours before shutting off. If it was showing 3 or 4 amps the charger was in the finish stage. I would run the charger again and if it runs for more than 16 hours then there is probably an issue with your charger.

First, we need to identify which Powerwise charger is being used. Post the model number or a picture of the faceplate.

As for the finish voltage, 45V is the minimum on-charge voltage needed to be reached to fully charge the US Battery batteries.

It's the model 28115 G04. I put it back on and left it alone and it actually shut off. 😁I checked the pack voltage and it was 38.6 volts. Not sure how long it had been off and resting when I took that reading. Got a lesson in patience. Thanks for all the advice and thoughts on the matter!

Sounds like you lucked out and have a 28115 that will do a fairly decent job charging USB batteries, not all 28115s will. The difference is the cutoff voltage the control board is set to. The 28115's cutoff spec is 45V +/-1V and the minimum finish voltage for the USB batteries is 45V, so about half of the 28115 chargers out there chronically undercharge USB batteries, so cart performance and battery lifespan suffers greatly.

Here is a SoC chart for USB batteries. The voltage readings are to be taken 12 hours after charger shuts off. (anything between about 8hr and 24hr is close enough)
