Puzzled
Ezgo 36 volt golf cart. Batteries are about 3 yrs old, well maintained with distilled. On full charge, halfway through the first golf round, the cart starts being very sluggish to move, but after a few yards it picks up to full speed and runs like a scalded cat. Batteries all register 6.3 volts and specific gravity of each cell is above average. I have cleaned and tightened all connections. What else could it be?

Re: Puzzled
My 2000 exgo txt PDS did that once and it went to working correctly just be flipping the forward and reverse switch on the dash a couple of times. I don't think it made a good connection when I put it in forward. Hasn't done it since.

Just something to check while you’re waiting for the experts might be the molex connector. It should be in front of the controller somewhere, if your cart has it. It’s a 4 wire push in type connector that comes from the throttle box to the controller. That connection gets corroded over time. Unplug/plug multiple times and use contact cleaner, if you have it. I’m f that connection is bad, it can mess up the throttle signal. If it’s a series cart, maybe a close look at the controller bracts on the f/r. Again, just some easy things to check while you’re waiting on the guys that know. |

1998 factory reconditioned. Not sure what you mean re drive system. It's a bog standard 36 volt, nothing special.

Use this link to I’d the drive system. Not sure what all was produced in 88. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...en-system.html Not sure how I butchered the typing on my first post so badly. What I meant was to take a look at the contacts on the f/r cam, if it’s a series cart. |

Re: Puzzled
Have checked all connections. It happened, as usual, yesterday. It has to be low battery power, it ran fine until No 16 hole when my indicator was at about the halfway mark. It got very sluggish moving away, it was definitely worse on the grass than on cement. How can this happen when each battery shows 6.3 volts and the SG is 1.3 +. Is there any other battery factor involved? Should I carry my multimeter and check the voltage when it happens? Although it seems like it has full power once it overcomes inertia.

Re: Puzzled
The "10-led meter" is only "accurate" when connected to healthy, balanced batteries, so yes, you need to check voltage when the problem is occurring. I'm betting you will find that the voltage situation is quite different when the problem is occurring.

Re: Puzzled
Install an inexpensive digital voltmeter in the dash and you can monitor the battery pack voltage under load as mentioned above.

Re: Puzzled
Will check voltage next time it happens and report back. Thanks to everybody for your interest.

Re: Puzzled
Please don't laugh! I think I may have solved the problem. I decided to clean all terminals and cover with electrical grease, I had previously concentrated on pos, especially the ones showing corrosion. Halfway through I found a negative connection where the cable connector had completely eroded off, nothing left. It was perfectly concealed by the nut and must have been barely touching the post. Hopefully the new cable will solve it.
