Ezgo txt pds using "neutral" to slow down instead of brakes...?
Are we asking for trouble using the fwd/rev switch moving the lever straight up/middle to stop the cart or is it okay to stop this way?
The ezgo is a 36v early 2000 txt pds with the shift lever on the seat under your legs. |

I'm pretty sure that puts the controller into "full brakes" mode, and yes, that is a rough life for a stock controller to do this everyday. Are your brakes that bad? Need to find someone who can adjust them correctly.. they are effective if adjusted right. And a worn-out brake job is far cheaper than a controller job.

I think the motor will take the brunt of the wear doing this day after day.

Just curious as to what's taking the brunt of the braking force when throwing it in neutral.(controller, motor) It feels like the same as the PDS roll away prevention feature engaging at 1 mph. |

Shifting to N, or completely changing direction selected, or turning key OFF will initiate an emergency stop process and slow the cart to either 8MPH or 2MPH using the maximum available regen braking and the beeper will yell at you.
I'm not sure which speed and it might depend on cart speed when the emergency stop was initiated. When the walkaway safety is triggered (cart rolls with pedal up), regen braking is used to try to keep cart's speed from exceeding 2MPH, so you can chase it down and park it properly. Normal regen braking cuts off at about 8MPH. Heat is the killer of both motor and controller, so I wouldn't use it often. Your cart won't do much more than 20MPH, even while going downhill with foot on floor, so you probably won't hit the batteries with excessive amp flow since they can handle a 1C charge rate or more. Might be an issue if it was done when batteries were at or near 100% SoC. Since your cart is in the freedom mode, regen braking isn't turned on when you lift your foot on the throttle like it is in the two "Hill" modes, however if the cart exceeds the motor's RPM limit imposed by the controller mode (about 4400RPM for freedom mode), regen braking will be used to reduce cart's speed to max allowable motor RPM. |
