Default What are my options

New to the cart world, I own a 2015 EZGO TXT 48V 4 passenger cart . My family is coming for thanksgiving and I’m worried with the added weight it will bog down. Using the speedometer app on my iPhone (placing in cupholder) it shows my cart is around 17-18MPH on a flat surface.

What are my options to get more power and torque. Do I need a programmer or a new controller or controller/motor. I’m so lost

Thanks for your help

Nice looking cart LC48! Why don"t you have some people go with you on a test run and see how it does?

As far as upgrades the sky is the limit. You will find everything you need right here.

The stock motor is only going to get you about 21-22 mph on stock size tires. A set of bigger "street wheels" will get you a couple more (big fancy wheels are a little bigger diameter than stock 18" tall tires). Next question is just how much speed do you require? And just what are you willing to trade to get it? Will losing speed on every slight hill bum you out? Do you require blasting up every hill at good speed with 4 people, or is flat land speed good enough. We all know the answer... I want speed up hills with people. To answer the original question, yes, it is going to bog down. Your cart was originally designed for golf, with added requirements tacked on later (added people & weight). There is no easy "I want it cheap" answer to this. There are loads of options that make this happen, but none that will be done by Friday, and for cheap.

As previously mentioned the cart is designed for light use with 18" tires. The 22-23" tires shown are 22-25% taller and while they increase top speed they reduce torque(power) by an equal amount... add a 100 pound rear seat and 2 more passenger and you have a receipt for disappointment.

The most popular upgrade for the TXT48 is the Alltrax XCT400 controller and SW180 200 amp solenoid. This combo will increase torque by 30-35% and speed by about 5mph. Slowing on hills will be reduced but not eliminated. Electric motors must reduce RPM to make their maximum power.

I hope this helps

Also, how much bogging down are you worried about? If you are going to ride around with 4 people on paved, flat ground with the windshield up then you will lose a little off the top end. But you will still be cruising 15+mph. So if you are worried that three guys on the cart won't make it to the ABC store and back, then don't worry, should be fine.

If slowing to 15 or not being able to drive 6 miles to your favorite fishing hole and back with 4 people is your concern, then the concern is quite justified.

I have a 2011 TXT 48. I started with 23" tires, lift and stock drive train and on flat paved ground it didn't matter how many people were on the cart, it rode fine. But 90% of my trips are 3 miles or less and I always kept my batteries on the charger when not in use. I have since modified my cart with lithium batteries and an alltrax controller as well as cosmetics and tunes. But the stock cart with big tires served me well for several years on **flat, paved ground**.

And if you got your Mother-in Law on there keep it under 10 mph and you'll be Ok.

It looks like you are a long ways east of here. The 2015 TXT48 has a decent stock controller that can be turned up to give you more power and a little more speed. If you want to transport it closer to me, I could meet up with you and do this. I'm west of Murphy NC, at the southeast corner of TN.
