Default Advice on 2015 TXT & speed upgrades.

Hi all. I've been lurking a while and I'm finally going to get a cart, and I'm looking to get some opinions and feedback on cart choice, speed upgrades, etc.

My requirements:
- Lifted (3-6")
- Large Tires (22-24)
- Fast (19-28 mph)
- Must look "cool" :)

Other factors:
- Mostly flat road riding. Occasional flat dirt or gravel trail.
- Budget is flexible

The local places around me have 2013-2015 EZGO RXT, EZGO TXT, and Clubcar Precedent. My wife and I just didn't like the look of the club cars. If there's a good option there, I could be convinced to take another look.

So from EZGO, initially I was leaning towards a RXV, because it seems like that is the easiest to go from stock to fast. Plus I've heard the AC system is very nice and reliable. My hesitation is that supposedly you do not want to lift those at all, because of stability issues when driving fast.

This has led me to 2015 EZGO TXT. Assuming I haven't made a major error in settling on this model, my next question is regarding speed/torque.

Here's what I gathered regarding speed/torque on this model:
- This should be a PDS system
- Speed can be programmed to "profiles"
- Profile 4 will be around 14-17 mph (tire size will increase speed slightly)
- Torque will be reduced as speed & tire size increases

Is the above accurate? I've tried to figure out how to increase the speed beyond that. I've seen some here offer to program the controller for higher performance (19-20mpg). I've also seen people selling "Speed chips". Mainly the red wire molex connector that is supposed to increase the speed. How does that relate to the controller "programming?" Lastly, I've read that the real way to increase performance beyond that is to get a new controller.

In summary, here are my questions:

- Is the EZGO TXT a good model based on what I've stated?
- What's the best way to increase speed? (Special programming? What about red wire "speed chip"?)
- What would be the next upgrade to get more than enough power to have good speed & torque? (close to 24-29mph)
- Upgraded controller? What about motor?
- What brand/spec is recommended for that upgrade?
- Any ideas on the anticipated speed/torque for that upgrade?

Thank you very much!

Welcome to BGW ~
The TXT48 is a GREAT choice. I have 2 in my test fleet.
They are the updated "PDS" but they do not take the speed chips like the old 36v PDS controller did. All factory increase is by dealer program which raises the speed limit but does nothing for power.

An older 2011 is my daily driver with an Alltrax XCT400 controller and FSIP Speed motor B3 installed. It's a joy to drive in any of the custom MODE3 settings. Unbridled speed was 32mph on 18" tires. I have limited it to 27.5 at 6000 rpms max per the manufactures recommendation. I drive it around the house and barn area in mode 1 and 2 mostly... mode 3 literally flies down the street. Lovin' this controller and motor combo.
My 2nd TXT48 is a 2014 being built for off road use. It will have 22s and a FSIP high torque BT motor with the XCT500 control.

Thanks for the reply scottyb.

Based on your response I've done a little more research. Any reason you didn't go with the 500 amp controller with the FSIP motor? How much performance do you think would be left on the table by only using the 400amp?

I think you'll love the TXT48. I have a 2011 TXT48 and it's been fantastic. I bought it with a 6" lift and 23" tires. If I were to do it from scratch I'd go with a 3 or 4" lift and 20, 21 or 22" tires.

Mine had the stock controller that a dealer had programmed. If I remember correctly I would reach 21mph on a straight flat run.

Then, I removed the lead acid batteries and went lithium with an XCT300 controller. My cart is fun to drive up to 25mph. Over 25 if is squirrely. I dialed the RPM on the motor down to limit me to 27mph right now. The reduced weight (around 400 lbs less) with the performance increase of the XCT300 has been a great combo. I can do wheelies if there is anybody sitting on the back. Trouble is if there are 2 or more on the back it's hard to not do wheelies in mode3. I did purchase the FNKS switch so mode 1 is for the kids, 2 is for the wife and 3 is for this idiot...

In your original post you were asking advise. I'd recommend a 3 or 4" lift and bigger tires, but not stupid big and you may like to go fast but on my cart with my lift and tires up to 25 is good for any driver, over that you have to pay attention.
