Modifying 72v Express L6 Controller
Hello,
Based on the feedback of many people on this incredibly informative forum, I have decided to purchase a 72v Express L6 sometime soon. That said, I have a couple reservations: -
My ultimate question: Is there another way to tweak this controller to get more performance/is there someone closer to me who can do it OR do I need to either A) Buy the cart from a dealer down by him and tow it home, or B) make the 1600 mile road trip - which has a cost of itself that I need to consider. Thanks for the help |

Re: Modifying 72v Express L6 Controller
1. Bob is the man. I have also been helped by him and have talked with him about the L6 and other 72 volt carts. The problem that has now shown up is now that folks have figured out how to get into and tweak the older controller Curtis has now changed its software configuration in the new carts and you need special hardware to make changes. I am pretty sure Bob will figure this out but doubt he will publish how for multiple reasons. People being too open with sensitive information is why we are back to where we are. I am sure if you decide to pull the trigger he would be able to help you out with at least the basics by mail and someone with a handheld could help you tweak it once you get it back.

Re: Modifying 72v Express L6 Controller
Thanks for the note. I agree, Bob is an amazing fountain of knowledge but with this particular cart and controller, he prefers to only work on it while it's in the cart... And he's 800 miles away. Before making such a commitment ($11k for the cart plus the time and money trailering it halfway across the country) I just want to understand my options.

Re: Modifying 72v Express L6 Controller
I will take a stab at this. Once programmed completely no. The 2018 and older Curtis rxv has two levels of memory. High and low. When programming changes are being made to high memory. When you are done making changes you switch the cart off. It then writes those changes to low to save them. Apparently these new controllers don’t work the same or there is a different way to write the changes. It might require genuine Curtis hardware to do this. Stay tuned.

When you prepare it for programming, the controller copies the active memory contents to edit memory where you can work with it. When you are finished, the edit memory is written back to active memory and the controller relocks for changes, ready to operate. If you just power it down, the edit memory is lost. Bob |

Bob's your answer. Buy him a couple of plane tickets and be done with it.
Of course, Bob would have to be up to / ok with that.... |

Yep. I'm happy to do so but Bob isn't feeling well and doesn't want to travel. No worries, he and I will connect.
