Dual solenoids on a 1986 ezgo 36v
I bought a 1986 36v resister ezgo it ran good for about a week then the resisters got red hot
It did not cool down until I disconnected the battery even with key out so the first place I look is the solenoid but I have two one in the normal place connected on the speed board the other one is next to the motor and connected directly to motor big studs to A1 and S1 small studs neg battery 36v post and a micro switch that is sandwiched between another micro switch and the speed.board they both look the same except the inside micro switch has what looks like a window instead of the middle screw connection I’m replacing all the cables but not sure how to wire it up because can’t find anywhere online the way mine is wired with two solenoids / micro switches I considered just wiring it up according to what I find online with one solenoid but not sure if there is a reason for two solenoids Thank you for any feedback |

Re: Dual solenoids on a 1986 ezgo 36v
This might be related to field shorting??? But it seems to be doing the opposite? Like dumping full bat voltage to the motor possibly bypassing the controller? I'm completely out of my league on field shorting and the dangers that go with. Evidently its not an entirely safe proposition though.
Here's a link to it being talked about on the forum. But yours still sounds different. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/extre...-shorting.html |

Yea I sort just let it sit until I figure it out can’t connect the battery back up with out arcing
The cables are fried that go from the resister to speed board I got 6 awg to replace the 8 awg that match the battery cables but probably going to replace those as well do to weak ends and some corrosion The solenoid on speed board looks ok still need to test it but the extra solenoid by the motor looks like it was from 1986 it’s completely rusted |

Did you look in the stickies at the top of the forum?
There's some wiring diagrams there, like these: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...-diagrams.html |

Yes but there not close it’s almost like the basic wiring for a 86 resister ezgo setup except the solenoid behind the battery bank next to motor and the extra micro switch everything else is connected the same the cables come of the motor as normal and go F&R switch except they have the wires coming from the solenoid as well

Can you post a couple pictures? That may help. I'm not the expert on this, but the real experts might chime in once they see what you've got going on.

Re: Dual solenoids on a 1986 ezgo 36v
The solenoid next to the motor is a go fast solenoid and yes it is a field shorting solenoid. When you are wide open pedal to the floor. Then you activate the go fast solenoid and all power from the batteries goes straight to the motor. DO NOT activate the go fast solenoid if the cart pedal is not on the floor. check your wiper board and see if it's stuck on a little. Make sure none of the coils are broken to

Re: Dual solenoids on a 1986 ezgo 36v
Ok I pulled out the resister so I could get a better look at them and clean them up they look rusted a bit. Do the coils go bad if they got over heated or just if there broken or touching each other
And would that second solenoid cause the cart to have power with the key out because the front one looks almost new which doesn’t guarantee it’s good but the back one looks real old and how do I ask for the go fast solenoid it’s to rusted to have any marks on it or model #on it is it a 36 v solenoid as well. How would I activate the solenoid I’m assuming I do that manually And thank you by the way for your input I appreciate it |

Here are a few others as you can see the cables are different sizes 8 awg coming from resister coils most of the battery cables are 6 awg except the one black one coming from pos to F&R I guess he threw in a 4 awg for good measure but I’m replacing all the 8 awg and most of the rest with 6 awg
