Powerwise charger turns on once plugged into outlet
I have a 1996 ezgo txt dcs with stock powerwise charger. The charger seems to work and charge correctly. However, it kicks on and starts humming once it’s plugged into wall outlet (before plugging into cart). The needle stays on 0 though. When you plug into cart, the needle jumps up as it’s supposed to and charges batteries. The charger will go to 0 once battieries are charged but the noise/hum/sound of charging is still happening as if it’s still charging. It will continue until you unplug from the wall outlet. But again, the needle is at 0 once batteries are charged. So it seems to charge right, but it’s wasting electricity continuing to him and produce some heat and it’s hard to know it’s done by opening garage door and still hearing buzz. Please help.

Re: Powerwise charger turns on once plugged into outlet
Is this a charger you've had for a while, that just started doing this, or did you get it used, and that's how you bought it?

Re: Powerwise charger turns on once plugged into outlet
Thanksgiving weekend. Be patient. I'll tell you what happened and one fix, if you're in a super hurry, but it ain't cheap.
The original owner bypassed the relay. A new control board will fix that. I'm guessing they're around $80 or so. The good news is the most expensive parts still work. |

BTW, I see you're new here. Welcome. Normally you'd get half a dozen responses in a day or two, but like I said, holiday weekend. Also, most folks don't respond if they can't help you, unless they are asking questions that will help the experts in a particular field.

Found this, just by searching:
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...acat=0&_sop=15 Crap. Link doesn't work. Search eBay for "powerwise charger board", then sort by lowest price including shipping. You could gamble $12, or pay $36. |

Might want to try and hook the relay back up like it should be from the factory and see if your charger works right. The old owner might of jumped the relay because his batteries were to low for the charger to come on

Re: Powerwise charger turns on once plugged into outlet
Wow. Thanks guys. And I’m looking forward to learning a lot here. Good info. I’m gonna try to open it up and hook relay back up and see. What about purchasing one of those smaller on board chargers? Those look a little more efficient and less combersome. I may look at getting one of these if it’s bad. Are they any good?

Re: Powerwise charger turns on once plugged into outlet
I have no experience with that item specifically, but for that amount of money, I'd never gamble the most expensive components on your buggy; your batteries.
If you just wanna play around looking at options, I'd start visiting all of the Site Sponsor's websites. They offer just about everything and at unbeatable prices. You'll likely find you can't get a good quality charger for less than around $200. |
