Default Help: 2012 TXT: I want 17mph, cush ride, and look cool

I ride 100% on the street. It’s all stock now with the personal setting upgraded for speed to 17mph. I want to keep it that way, I don’t NEED to go any faster. I want new wheels and tires to look cooler and be able to go over an occasional curb. 2nd most important to looking cooler is I would like a little cushier ride - still important tho.

Can I get away with just new wheels and street tires with a decent sidewall for cushion and height/clearance? If I put bigger tires I guess I will lose speed so I need a new controller and solenoid? Will I need a lift kit to get over residential curbs more easily? Any idea how much speed is lost with the various bigger tires?

Thanks!!

Larger tires will give you more speed, and less of the torque you will need to climb curbs. If you want more torque with the larger tires, you'll have to upgrade your controller. The best bang for the buck is an Alltrax controller. Since your 2012 TXT will be of the TXT48V variety, a SepEx controller will be needed. That would be the Alltrax XCT...

There are a few options for current. I suggest you do some reading and try to determine what you will need for the tire size required to climb those curbs. Going too large may require more current than your stock motor will handle. There is a lot of material on SepEx upgrades here...

Welcome to the addiction!

When I say climbing curbs I just mean to go over a 6” residential curb...not really climbing. It can do it now just not without hitting something usually.

Well if that is the case, I can reprogram your existing stock controller to give you more power and up to 21-22 MPH if wanted. You can install a 2" or 3" spindle lift on the front and move the rear axle to below the leaf springs on the rear, to raise the body if needed to prevent high-center on curbs. Lifts will raise the body but not the ground clearance under the rear axle. As long as you approach the curb straight-on, it should not be a problem.

If you want you can go with 20" outside diameter tires. That'd give you .75 inches more clearance between the axle/differential and the ground to help with not hitting the curb. I "think" 20 inch tires will fit without modification but am not positive.

As Bob pointed out, larger tire will give a little more speed and the loss of a little torque.

If you stay with the 8" rim the sidewall should give you a bit more cushion, but remember you need heavy tires for the 500 pounds of battery plus cart. So lawn mower or ATV tires are not your friend here. I ran 18psi in my tires when I still had lead acid batteries. More psi gives you better run time/top speed but harsher ride.

An Alltrax XCT controller would be a fun upgrade on this cart. You can dial back speed in the settings ( 23-24 mph is standard ) or better yet, add the FN2 and dial speed and regen brake control while driving for a custom experience. Nobody has reported regretting the upgrade yet
