1989 EZ-Go 48 volt?
I have a 1989 EZ-Go marathon resistor cart and I am attempting a 48 volt conversion. I have done alot of reading and I am getting ready to order the 48 volt solenoid and charger. I searched all over the sponsors sites and am not really clear about some things. Will any any 48 volt solenoid with silver posts work? Since this is a resistor cart will any 48 volt charger work and I can just change the plug to match my cart?

Yes on both questions. As long as you are aware you will have to do a few things like the charger plug and the solenoid you should be fine.

If you are leaving the resistor coils and speed wiper with the little copper pucks .... plan on trying to drive WOT & then coast everywhere you go..... they don't like the extra heat form the increased amps at slow speeds... Just something to be aware of while driving.

NO NOT every 48v charger will work, A powerdrive charge requires an on board computer (obc) to work properly, you can by pass the board to make it work, but it will not shut off, so you need to make sure you get a lester or similiar non powerdrive charger, for a ezgo or whatever conversion

Re: 1989 EZ-Go 48 volt?
thanks, been here for a while just never posted anything. I have built three other golf carts all with the help of all the great people here and all the great posts. This is my first older machine and not to familiar with all the insides and out. never dealt with a resister cart but I think it will be fun. Later on I will probably switch it over to a controller so I am looking to get a charger that will work on both types....any one know of where I could get a charger like that?????
