48V Upgrade Audio Question
Getting ready to do the 36V to 48V swap on my cart. The problem I am having is how to wire my audio system. I have a 700W amp on the cart which draws a lot of power. I don't think I can wire directly to 16V worth of batteries, and don't think a voltage converter will handle the current draw of the amp.
I know I am not the only one who has had this problem, any thoughts/help would be appreciated. |

Re: 48V Upgrade Audio Question
What is the actual amperage draw? We have units up to 30 amps with radio memory feature.

Re: 48V Upgrade Audio Question
Scotty, doing the math, 740 Watts at 12V is about 60 Amps. The amp has 80A worth of fuses.
I would think it would draw more than 30A. |

Re: 48V Upgrade Audio Question
Yea sounds like you should go with a reducer. Should always go with one so you don't throw off the charging of the batt. pack. Or do what I do and go with a 12v 30AH battery just for accessories. I dont have near the Amp you have. But with LED lights, amp ,speakers and USB charging ports. I went with a stand alone battery. Used a backboard to run a fuse block and ground bus with all the relays laid out. I like that its separate.

Re: 48V Upgrade Audio Question
Sounds like you need to start planning out adding a 12v aux battery.

Re: 48V Upgrade Audio Question
I do like the idea of a standalone battery, that would simplify a lot. I am confused though how you would charge it since the rest of the system is 48V. Or would you just use a stand alone car charger to charge just it?

Re: 48V Upgrade Audio Question
Just use a second stand alone charger. That's what I do.

Re: 48V Upgrade Audio Question
Current going to speakers is a computation of wattage and speaker impedance so different than the 12 volt source but the 80 amps of fuses should give you a hint. Converter won’t work.
