Question 98 EZGO TXT series 36 v

Hello, I've been reading through the troubleshooting post about carts that will no go and trying to diagnose my problem. I'm posting because I can't figure out what the problem with my TXT is. So here's the story... sorry for the long post...

I decided to take my TXT apart to clean it, paint it, and put new bolts on it before summer came back around. I disconnected the input from the FR switch trying to take the body off by drilling out the rivets. This proved too difficult and I kept breaking drill bits. I ended up just sanding and painting with body on. I went to reconnect the FR when it was cleaned up and painted. The F switch screw with RED wire broke when i tightened it. I tried to salvage the switch but it was impossible. I tested to make sure cart still ran by holding the wire down and pressing pedal, it still moved. My metal ratchet hit the + battery terminal and another wire close to it (don't know which wire, happened so quick and scared the **** out of me) and sparks flew. I ordered a new switch and cart did not move, solenoid did not click. I did the diagnostic with multi-meter and figured the solenoid may have been fried in the arc incident. I ordered a new solenoid and installed it last night. Still nothing...

My pack voltage is reading 38, batteries are 1 year old. Each battery reads 6.5. I get pack v at input to controller, FR switch, and every other testing point. My FR switch assembly will have to be replaced soon due to the bolts overheating but still gets voltage. Pressing the pedal makes no difference in voltage across any components. Could it be the ignition switch or the plunger/go pedal switch got fried? I'm trying to exhaust all other options before spend a bunch on new controller.

Thanks for your help in this, I'v e tried doing it without making new post but I'm at my wits end. I just want it running before summer comes back around.

In 98 ezgo made 2 different drive systems. Series and DCS. Since you have wires on the F&R I suspect you also have a run/maintenance toggle switch on the controller cover? If yes, it is a DCS drive system, If no toggle switch it is a Series drive system. Once the drive system is identified we can better answer your questions. And all questions should be preceded by " On a DCS cart .." for clarity.
Most of these 90s carts still have the reed switch intact which will pop like a fuse when shorted out. It can be bypassed as shown in the charge receptacle pic below.

Thank you for your quick response, it is a series drive. There is no run/maintenance toggle switch anywhere in the system. That is what my reed switch looks like. Iv'e already accounted for the reed switch through watching youtube fixes and this forum. I will go back and check the reed switch again though. Unfortunately, I'm at work until later tonight. Once home I will try the reed switch bypass and post results.

Thanks

There are 2 more switches to check. Check the F&R micro switch with the blue wire. Power must go to the blue wire with the lever in both directions. Key switch must work (on/off). and the pedal box micro switch must work (on/off)
If yes to all switches the solenoid should read 36v between the 2 small posts when the cart is in gear, key on, pedal down. At that point the solenoid should click.
If no 36v between small solenoid posts determine if you are missing the + or the - current.

I hope this helps

Did you download a series wiring diagram? They are in the Stickies.

Connect the negative (black) lead from your Digital MultiMeter (DMM) to pack negative, then, starting at the reed switch, follow the pack positive through all of the switches and connectors.

If your reed switch is bad, attached is how to bypass it.

If you haven't done so, eliminate the Molex connector in the second attachment, as it often becomes intermittent.

The first thing you need to do is to get the solenoid to click. Ignore all cables at this point and focus on the wires - low amperage.

So, just got home. I bypassed the Reed switch on my txt 36 volt series. Now the reverse noise comes on but when itis in forward...? Does not go forward or reverse when peddle is depressed. Solenoid is not clicking. Still have full voltage across pack.

I posted this pic of the wiring that I hope you can follow. Did you check the micro switch in your pedal box?

That is the wrong diagram. It highlights the high current cables. Your focus needs to be on the low current wires. Follow the pack positive until you lose it. Then it's either the wire, the spade connector, or the switch.

I have the pedal Box open now testing the switch it's getting 0 volts to the terminals when pedal is pushed and power is on and connected.
