Default Extra cables from motor to Controller and FnR switch?

New to carts and have TXT 2006 I think, 48V system, Alltrax 500, 4 gauge cables. Burn smell turns into the dreaded FnR switch heat and burned cable insulation. The hot terminal was 9 o'clock as you look at the back-up noisemaker. I have a new HD switch and intend to change out the cables to 2 gauge. I assume that my cart was updated at some point and my question is this: There are two 4 gauge cables that connect to the motor at the motor A1 and A2 terminals, from the M (middle) terminal on the Alltrax to A1 on the motor, and two more from the topmost terminal on the FnR switch to A2 on the motor. I am including pics in case they help. The switch pic is not so great, but you might see the two cables at the far left. The burned cable is removed.
Are these cables necessary? When I re-cable,do I need to replace both sets of duplicate cables? Thank you, very much.

Change all of the high current cables to 2g and you should be all set. Looks like someone had extra cables laying around and figured doubling them would accomplish the same thing.
