2002 - TXT Curtis 300 controller - to Alltrax upgrade wiring help
I'm regretting that I purchased the alltrax controller...no local shop will touch my cart since I haven't bought the parts through them and paid their ridiculous markups.
that said.. I started the project this weekend..got my old Curis pulled off...and can not figure out the wiring to the new alltrax - have searched youtube etc...I'm fine with the B-/B+/M, etc...but the old curtis has a black and a white wire to it...I can't figure out where to connect those... any help appreciated as I now have a controller that I'm stumped with, no service available in my area, and honestly, with all the threads on programming.. I'm thinking I shoulda just kept my money and put up with what a 300 amp 36v cart can and can't do....help please !! desperate in SC. |

Quote:
If the F/R selector is a rocker switch on the dash and there is a Run/Tow switch on the controller cover, it's a PDS cart (SepEx drive). |

Re: 2002 - TXT Curtis 300 controller - to Alltrax upgrade wiring help
the Curis is that old 300 amp model...works great..personality jumper lets it clock at about 21mph..just hoping for more low end torque for our trail riding.
the Alltrax is the 48400 like you have I believe (the new blue one)..no fan. just not sure what to do with the white/black cables from the curtis. (pic attached) |

Re: 2002 - TXT Curtis 300 controller - to Alltrax upgrade wiring help
The smaller gauge black and white cables go to the motor's field windings. Cut off the push on terminals, install ring terminals and connect to the two bolt terminals next to the M- terminal.
If the cart direction doesn't match the F/R switch, swap where the black and white cables are landed on the controller. Since you're getting 21MPH with a stock PDS controller, you probably have 20" tall tires, which gives you the 11% speed gain along with a 10% torque loss. The XCT48400-PDS will regain that loss and then some as well as upping the top speed to the upper 20's. A stock PDS motor is capable of handling the output of an XCT48400-PDS. The sweet spot for PDS cart with a stock motor is a 42V battery pack. |

thanks so much Jonny!...so to be clear...the connects labeled F1 and F2 will be my white/black or black/white as needed.
and that makes sense of the 2 ring adapter terminals provided in the package. back to the shed ! your hero button has been pressed...thank you sir. |

Curious if you got the owner's manual with the controller?

Re: 2002 - TXT Curtis 300 controller - to Alltrax upgrade wiring help
i did..and it has some great looking schematics pictures...and I'm that dumb guy that likes//needs to see something say "The red wire goes here"
I know...this is on me... I accept that... I'm good to do basic stuff..adding lights etc..this was a deeper dive...but I also made the mistake of not checking first with local shops to see if they were willing to do the labor if I stumbled...only 2 shops really in my area..both stay backed up about a month and won't even let you get in line until you drop the cart off to them..then the clock starts.. my cart is currently running and getting used 3-7 days a week on my property..so I was hoping not to do without it while I waited on the shops..the main shop in town has a cantankerous (spelling?) old guy who barks at his daughter who tries to run the front counter..barks even louder at customers who want to spend money with him... I was going to have him do a complete battery cable upgrade, street legal lighting kit, etc...but he's just not easy to be a customer with...almost doubles the price of his parts (which he likely gets from the same Carts Zone guys...they are just 30 minutes from us...anyway.. this is all on me... I'm in over my head...but learning...and so much appreciate the help here on our forum...thanks again! |

Re: 2002 - TXT Curtis 300 controller - to Alltrax upgrade wiring help
There is no need to panic or regret. The Ezgo PDS controller install is a walk in the park. takes about 15-20 minutes once you do one. I instruct my customers to mark all the cables according to the terminals they are on before removal. Use masking tape and marker with B+ and M- B- etc. These cables go on the XCT where the terminals are marked exactly the same... easy!
The big plug plugs into the XCT one way ... another freebe. F1 and F2 get the new ring terminals put on em (included) and connect according to the install instruction booklet. White wire at J7 and black at J8. The upgraded solenoid has the same 2 big and 2 small terminals as the original. Really the only one regretting this should be the salty shop owner when his customers find out that with this website customers can do their own upgrades |
