Default EZGO just stopped running

Hi folks, you guys have always given me helpful suggestions in the past and I am hoping you can offer advice again, please!

I let my teen son take his friend for a ride on the golf cart. They came back, pushing the cart home. He said that while they were riding it up a hill, it just stopped running. I thought maybe they ran the battery out and tried charging it overnight. It still didnt run.

The lights, horn all work. But when I press the gas pedal, nothing happens. Checked voltage and the batteries appear to be fine. Its almost like a cable is disconnected somewhere? Checked for loose cables but don't see any.

Any suggestions please?

Can you give some more info about the cart, year, 36/48 volts, series/sepex?

Its a 1998 EzGo 36 volt system. So, when you turn on the key, in either forward or reverse, you push on the throttle, it will go forward/backward a couple of inches, then die. If you turn switch off then turn on again, it will do the same thing. If you do it repeatedly, it will not do anything at all. Everything else electrical works. Tested all batteries and the series, and all voltages are good. Hope this helps. Thank you all.

Sounds like you've got a 98 DCS (SepEx drive) and you don't hear the solenoid click when you push the pedal. Does it have a Run/Tow switch on controller cover?

If so, trace the gray cable coming out of the pedal box and find the in-line connector. It might have gotten wet or the wires caught on something.

Best fix is to cut off the 4-pin connector and replace it with solder joints or butt spliced, and cover with marine grade (water proof - adhesive lined) shrink tubing.

Or, it could be the solenoid has failed. Check the resistor across the 2 large posts on the solenoid, see if it gets hot/warm after the cart tries to move.

With a 36V cart, climbing too steep of a hill with a stock controller, that stock controller could have easilly been damaged. A stalled motor can try to draw more than a stock controller can handle.

Thank you so much for the great suggestions. I will try them out. Yes, there is a run/tow switch. When you turn it on, the solenoid initially clicks and the cart moves a couple of inches, but then stops.

Thank you again for suggestions. Will report back with my findings :)
