1997 Electric cart will not run
Getting ready for spring I decided to clean all my battery terminals since they had a little corrosion build up. I disconnected the positive and negative leads first on the first and sixth battery. I only removed one connecting cable at a time to clean then reinstalled each. When I was finished I attached the red cable but when I attached the black cable there was a small arc. Now the unit will not move and the charger will not come on when attached. What should be my first place to check?

Check the battery pack voltage with a digital volt meter. Maybe you hooked up something wrong and don't have the right voltage. Can you post a pic of your battery wiring?

Re: 1997 Electric cart will not run
John,
Note the F/R contactor.....that make it a "series" cart...no Maintenance or "run/tow" switch. ebrown, does the solenoid click when you try to go ?? does buzzer sound when in reverse ?? (did it work before) Recheck your battery connections, make sure the FnR selector is firmly in F or R.... as in NOT in the middle.. (don't ask how I know) |

Re: 1997 Electric cart will not run
Right... there is no run/tow switch. I rechecked the tightness of all nuts. The solenoid does click when the pedal is pushed. Could it be that the unit has set too long and the batteries are not charged enough? I am beginning to suspect my charger has bit the dust. If this is the case can a regular battery trickle charger be used to test my thinking?

Re: 1997 Electric cart will not run
Sounds like you need to get yourself a multimeter to test voltages. Total pack, and individual voltages. If your batteries have set for any amount of time without being charged, they will have lost voltage. Batteries do lose charge over time. Lead acid batteries do not like to sit without charge for any appreciable amount of time.

Re: 1997 Electric cart will not run
Here is a useful chart for battery charge information that I got out of a "sticky" thread
