It should be okay on it's side.
It can not be mounted up side down. |

I've seen plenty of folks with them mounted on the side. You should be fine

Re: 48v solid state conversion 82 marathon
Lets try to stay positive. The manufacture says it can be mounted on it's side. Those of us who have seen the inside mechanics of these units prefer to see them mounted in the upright position to minimize any operation issue associated with side force drag.

I for one would be interested in seeing pictures as you go through the conversion process.

Re: 48v solid state conversion 82 marathon
I can't imagine it "failing". The worst that could happen is the contacts could momentarily open with a really big bump in the horizontal axis. They're already designed to handle big bumps in the vertical axis, so it's unlikely to happen. Orientation is probably more important for closing the contacts, and less so for maintaining them.

Re: 48v solid state conversion 82 marathon
This Is my first golf cart so I'm learning as I go but sounds like I'll be putting it upright I'd rather do it right the first time, the rest of the parts will be at my house when I get there..

Re: 48v solid state conversion 82 marathon
As Scottyb said they are approved by the manufactured to be mounted sideways.
The issue is with the N.C. contacts at the bottom. The N.O. contacts are held in place by the magnetic force of the active coil and will not release regardless of its mounting position. The bottom N.C. contacts are only kept closed by the return spring of the inactive N.O. contact so You don't want the weight of the contact arm and gravity to weaken the return spring. This is also the reason why the N.C. contacts on those Reversing Solenoids are not rated to make and break current. |
