Slow to move at first
1992 36v Marathon. When I leave the cart sit for an hour or so then try and drive it again she moves about 30 feet or so and dies out. I can jack up the rear and go full throttle and the wheels will turn but slowly. After about 30 seconds the speed will start to increase and about a minute later the wheels are spinning at full speed. I now can drive the cart for miles reaching speeds upwards of 16mph. Upon return, using an inferred thermometer, I check connections and equipment for high temps and I find nothing wrong. Pack voltage at the start 38-39 volts, little to no voltage drop after the ride.
Recent fixes: Rebuilt motor New pack cables 4 batts tested sat, 2 new |

I'm wondering if the 4 batts are able to charge to good voltage, but do not have the ability to deliver sufficient amps? |

Re: Slow to move at first
I bought the cart DOA. 4 older batts are 5 years old. They were tested by a resistive load for 20 secs each loosing a negligible amount. My friend/Interstate dealer told me they would be good as long as I keep up with the maintenance.
The weird thing is once it "gets warmed up" she is good to go. |

Re: Slow to move at first
1992 appears to have been a transition period between Marathons with resistor drive and controller drives. I suspect you have a controller drive, but please verify which you have.
If it is a controller drive, connect a DVM between the M- and B+ and monitor the voltage when the cart is moving at reduced with pedal on floor. The voltage ought to be the same as the battery pack voltage when pedal is on floor. If it isn't, there is a controller, or throttle or battery issue. If it is, there is a motor or mechanical drive train issue. |

Re: Slow to move at first
It is a controller cart. I am assuming that I can connect the DVM at either end of the cables since they are remaining connected. I am also assuming that I can place it on stands to check the voltage when it is acting up. My DVM also has a 600a clamp that I could use to check to see what it may be pulling when acting up. Which cable should "clamp" for a good reading?
What kind of mechanical drive line issues could I look for if I were to drop the rear and look around? |

2. True. 3. False or maybe. If problem occurs when on jack stands, maybe, but it would be best to measure voltage under actual driving conditions. 4. No particular order, B- M- or B+ cables. 5. Dried out bearings, sludge in the differential, dragging brakes. Push cart by hand on level pavement. It'll take some effort to start it moving, but once it is moving it should be relatively easy to keep it moving. |

Re: Slow to move at first
Cart rolls with very little effort when pushing.

Safe to assume if low or no amps when malfunctioning, but pack voltage is correct, it would be a bad connection inside the solenoid or controller. |
