Default Key not turning it OFF!

1979 Marathon, 36 V. Trying to keep this old marathon moving safely . When you turn the key off the cart will still move {with touching the pedal} forward or reverse depending on the position of the F/R switch. The only way to STOP it from moving is put the F/R switch in neutral position. I don't know where to start? Carts to old to pay someone to fix it, the owner is 71 years old and doesn't want to sink a lot of money in it. Any ideas? HELP!

Looks like you've been here for six years, so hopefully you know how to test things. I'd suspect the key switch. Go to the Stickies and download a wiring diagram and Owner's, Service/ Repair, and Parts manuals.

Let us know if you get stuck testing it.

Could be the Solenoid. I had that problem when I first got mine. It was stuck, and bought a new one and it worked fine. There is a way you can test it with a multi-meter, you can search how here.

Good point.

Mark59, do you know if he has a controller cart or a resistor cart? A resistor cart will probably go with key switch off, if the solenoid is welded shut. My controller cart needs KSI closed to get power to the controller.

Do you hear the solenoid click when you press the go pedal?

Yes. If it only moves when pressing pedal check key switch. But, it sounds like you have more than one problem. Unhook pack until you figure it out.

Sounds like solenoid is stuck.
