Default 2006 36v PDS Motor or controller first?

i have a 2006 pds 36v volt cart with back seat and 20" wheels i need a big torque improvement!
I bought the cart before realizing how steep the hills at our new campground are. The rental carts at the campground are all 48v stock carts and most seem to struggle up a couple of the hills so im worried i wont even come close to making it up the hills with 4 people on the cart. I have been looking at the admiral mot-2 and Alltrax 500 controller. I really cant afford to do both at this time but plan to do both eventually and upgrade to 48v. Im curious as to which upgrade would give me the most torque increase first? or will i not see enough improvement doing one upgrade at a time?

all 3 of the things you want to do are heading you in the right direction. the first thing you will need is the controller, that will "unlock" a lot of potential, in my opinion, the next thing would be to go 48v, as that will get you 33% more torque and speed. then go with the motor when you can.

Thanks that does make sense I was going to start with a motor first but the controller does seem like a smarter way to start

Agreed, always controller first.

Cables first, then Controller & Solenoid

Replace all ten high current cables with 2Ga or thicker, probable ought to go with at least 2Ga with a 500A controller and hills. (See attached Alltrax cable recommendations)

My first upgrade was to 2Ga cables and I got a noticeable (seat of the pants type) increase in torque even with a stock PDS controller. (Cart was only 3 years old when I got it and OEM cables looked good.)

The XCT48500-PDS runs at 36V and 48V.
Get the MZJ400-48V solenoid, it runs at 36V and 48V. (Not many solenoids do)
Cables don't much care what the voltage is, but get set built for a 6x8V 48V pack, the cables need to be longer for 8V batteries due to them having both terminals on same side.

Turn the 500A XCT down to 400A while running the stock PDS motor and then crank it back up when you replace the motor.

The install was quite easy! This cart is definitely a lot more powerful ! It climbs the hills at our campground with ease! ScottyB thank you I can’t wait to upgrade to 48v and a motor.
