2001 EZ GO Hurricane Ike Rescue Need Info Please

Good morning everyone and thanks for the help in advance. I hope you all had a Happy Easter. I know i did. I picked up my new cart this weekend. It's a 2001 EZ GO that was submerged during Hurricane Ike. I live up near Dallas and drove all the way down to League City to get it. Also visited some family so not to bad of a trip. This is only my second cart. My first one was a 1993 Marathon. The only thing I did to it was replace the batteries and cables so I'm still a noob to this and this is my first time posting. I am looking for some direction on how to proceed with this cart. It is a 36v, no batteries, charger does not work and looks like surface rust on frame. What I want to do is convert this over to a 48v system since I have to replace all electronics anyway. I have a sand blaster and am going to break the cart down to the frame and blast all paint and rust off. My first question is what is the best to repaint the frame with? I was thinking using some kind of primer and then spraying that rhino bed liner type stuff on it. What I want to do to the cart is put a better lift kit on it (has cheap 4" body lift) thinking a 6 to 8 in lift, some good size tires but want to keep the speed up in the 20s. Will not be using it on a lot on hills just mainly around the neighborhood. I would love some suggestions. Also I do not know what model cart this is. On the tag the Manufacture Code is E301 (did some research and found that was built November 3, 2001) but can not find any info on the Serial Number it is 1373075. I also am going it put some heavy duty leaf springs on and rear seat. New paint job some chrome also want to add a 12v battery to run a radio and some lights think it will be a nice cart. Also I have been searching but not finding a lot of info on the frame restore.

The frame would be my concern on an EZGO. Since it is tubular steel and salt has invaded, how do you or for that matter anyone that is reclaiming a drowned rat plan on treating INSIDE the tube? The salt WILL work from the inside out and you won't see it until ?????

I suppose you could dip it, but that is a bit pricey and I'm not sure how the chassis will react to the normal coating temperatures. Galvanizing bath is ~800 degrees and steel has been known to "move" when exposed to that temp.

First of off welcome. You will need a few more post I believe before you can have all access if i remember correctly. Your cart is a fleet cart also known as a series cart. You will have your work cut out for you on your restore but you will definetely know your cart when you are done. Make sure you replace every inch of wire on the cart do not try to salvage it you will end up with a nightmare otherwise. The motor can be sent off and rebuilt to your needs and even two speed if you want. Replace forward/reverse switch with a heavy duty one along with new solenoid with correct resistor and diode. Make sure to replace all microswitches and get a aftermarket controller capable of your 48 volt upgrade. On the charger I bought a LVS 36/48 volt charger they are an automatic charger and they only cost ~$250. Don't forget about the bearings throughout the cart. Hopefully your rearend did not get saltwater in it.
