Cart got left in the rain....
I have a 2006 EZGO TXT all stock except for an Alltrax XCT500. It was left outside and we had a lot of rain come through yesterday. Now....nothing. When I turn on the key I don't get a response from the controller at all.
Any suggestions?? |

Re: Cart got left in the rain....
Although it's possible, a cart being rained on should not cause any problem.

Re: Cart got left in the rain....
Let it dry out a couple days and then see what happens. I have had many many carts over the years and they have all gotten caught in the Florida summer monsoon rain. I would be very surprised if there is any damage after it dries out.

It is highly possible your batteries are just dead. a good shower should not effect your cart. Unless water shorted some connections and drain the juice from your batteries.

Re: Cart got left in the rain....
There are a number of posts on this forum where electrical problems have developed after a cart has been exposed to water from regular cart washing, pressure washing, puddles and submersion ... but not so often rain. I have had problems with water entry into my controller when washing my cart but I believe that your Alltrax controller should be very well sealed.
To start with, check the voltage of your battery pack to see if anything is problematic there. Your fully charged voltage should correspond to the State of Charge attached here. If your voltage is acceptable, perhaps you may have water entry into a switch or connection that may be the root cause of your problem. This could include your ignition switch or anything with a connection where water entry could have occurred. In this case some compressed air or a blow dryer (or both) can be your friend. I would suggest starting with your ignition switch ... check to see if power is getting to the switch. If it is, is power leaving the switch? If not, then some air or heat applied to the switch might resolve your problem ... as might some electrical contact cleaner. Also check any device with a molex connector (or similar connection). Unplug the connection, blow each end with compressed air, apply some hot air to dry it out and reconnect. Water entry might not be visible, so you might want to do that with all your connections. Also check to see if you are getting power to your solenoid ... you could have a coincidental solenoid failure with the rain storm and the problem might not be water related at all. Compressed air, hot air and your multi-meter are your tools of choice when hunting down a water shorting problem. It become a process of elimination while checking out your electrical components. You will also want to have a wiring diagram handy to refer to. Hope this helps ... let us know how you make out. |

Re: Cart got left in the rain....
Ok so I had to go out of town for a few weeks and I finally got a chance to to look at the cart. I had a friend with a battery load tester come and check to make sure that my batteries weren't bad. They are not. I reconnected the battery pack to the controller (No lights or accessories) to start my testing and after a few minutes I heard some bubbling coming from the batteries... What does that mean??

Were batteries charging at this time?

Re: Cart got left in the rain....
Does the 2006 have the very water sensitive ITS throttle? If it does then it's in the floor of your cart and you can open it up and dry it out.
As for the bubbling as Cobra pointed out, the only time I've heard bubbling was while charging and that's normal. |

Re: Cart got left in the rain....
BTW & FWIW, it's difficult to diagnose any electrical cart's problems without a Multimeter. Multimeters are pretty cheap.....like $15...and an inexpensive one will help you a bunch anytime your cart isn't working up to par.

Re: Cart got left in the rain....
FWIW I always start the wet cart won't go diagnostics with a leaf blower concentrated on the micro switches and any exposed small wire connections.
For a sepex cart with Alltrax remove all plug in connections and blow the plugs and the receptacles clear of water. Then pull the F&R switch and dry it out. And as mentioned the pedal box micro switch ! |
