Default EZ GO solenoid/reverse/did I short it out

Working in my dads ezgo I went by what he told me. He said it was acting up with the stopping and starting. I replaced solenoid and wired it just like the one I removed. Worked fine with two exceptions. The battery indicator came on without cart switched and there was no reverse. Went forward fine. There was no click in reverse either.

In my head I connected the reverse problem with the solenoid but I double checked everything and it seemed fine. THEN. I pressed the pedal with tow switch unplugged and got a click that sounded like it shorted it out. Still had light going to battery indicator.

Questions: if I had connected solenoid incorrectly would it have gone forward at all and not had reverse? Gut tells me no and that I am connecting two problems that aren’t. I searched threads but they all seemed to veer off on another direction or over my head. Does anyone have quick suggestions?

I found wire hanging that may have something to do with reverse. I will attach photos if I can. Thanks!!

EDIT: you leap-frogged me. Why were you working at the dash when you replaced the solenoid, which is under the seat? What made you decide to replace the solenoid? What year is this?

Let us know your drive type. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...en-system.html

With "tow switch" sounds like SepEx, but which one?

I see the wire, but where is it? What is it nearest to?

Someone will come along, but the more info you give, the quicker they can help you.

Is that wire near the batteries?

You have a cart with a Precision Drive System (PDS).

If the cart ran in forward and didn't run in reverse, the solenoid is good.

The battery meter shouldn't light up without the Run/Tow switch in Run and a direction selected on the F/R and the keyswitch turned ON. The fact the battery meter was light up when the Run/Tow switch was unplugged from the controller indicates the controller is somehow back-feeding voltage to the keyswitch.

I suspect the loose wire used to go to the reed switch in the charge receptacle, which probably has been bypassed since the wire appears to have been cut off.

Attached is a schematic for a PDS and a drawing showing how the voltage gets to the keyswitch as well as a drawing showing where Pin-1 is on the various plugs.

-------------
If the cart is still running in forward, put it in reverse and measure voltage on J1 Pin-2. If you get battery pack voltage (38.2V when fully charged), put controller in diagnostic mode and listen for error codes. Instructions in text at bottom of attached PDS label.

--------
I suspect the controller is bad.

FYI.

It does look like a red/white wire? But it also looks like the female spade connector is broken, not simply removed. It's unclear if this is a short wire and connector, or?

FYI - everybody looking for solenoid diagnostics. If the solenoid works in one direction and not the other, it is good no matter what make or model cart it is in

How many in-line spade connectors are in a PDS cart? (Hint --- one)

No. If the cart has any problem whatsoever, you MUST replace the solenoid. Then keep replacing stuff ...

This isn't directed at OP. Just a general observation.

Yeah, obvious to anyone with one.
