99 EZ-GO knocking sounds from rearend
I just bought a 99 EZGO electric. You can't hear it at slower speeds but when we reach full speed there is a knocking sound that comes from the back of the cart. it's rythmic and seems to be coming from the right rear wheel but it's hard to be sure. The knock is hard enough that you can feel it in your seat. Anyone else have this problem before? Thanks.

Re: 99 EZ-GO knocking sounds from rearend
the rear end should take 30 wt. oil, and if its a 99 it probably takes a Little over a quart of oil, if im not mistaken it has a yellow plug at the top of the rear end and half way down there will be a 10 mm bolt that you remove and then you pour oil into the upper hole and stop when the oil comes out of the 10 mm bolt hole, replace 10mm bolt and give it a try, should quite things down, if not, then its surgery on the pig, and thats never no fun

Re: 99 EZ-GO knocking sounds from rearend
Just one more thing to check before dissecting the rear end. Since you said it "sounds" like it is coming from the right rear wheel, check the hub (brake drum). Remove the castle nut and hub and inspect the splines on the hub/drum. Doesn't cost anything to check and if they are worn, it could conceivably cause the noise you described. A hub is way cheaper than pretty much anything concerning the rear!
Good luck. |
